Huge Luxury Ranch Estate in Heart of Gladewater
Gladewater Ranch is former estate of Jack L Phillips, Gladewater oilman, WWII veteran, and civic leader. Jack and his wife Barbara built the main house on the estate in 1975. The ranch features a 20-stall horse arena and multiple pastures. This was home to his daughters Gail and Nancy. The daughters’ weddings were even held on the property. Jack and his family loved nature and animals. The estate house was created as part of the environment and not despite it. We believe that this home represents Feng Shui, peace, and warmth.
The main house was appointed in all the best materials, technology, and conveniences of the 1970’s. There are rich woods, lavish appointments, and one-off custom materials. The home was meticulously maintained so we only had to do a few things to get the home ready for hosting. The design and charm of the decorations of the home are an amazing example of what was the best of the 70’s.
The town of Gladewater has a significant music history. To honor that history and those that created it, each bedroom is a tasteful ohmage to some of those stars. Make sure to visit the Gladewater Museum while here to get the full details.
The main bedroom is dedicated to Elvis Presley who spent some time in Gladewater in the mid 1950’s. Elvis was friends with a local DJ and future Country Music Hall of Famer Tom Perryman. Perryman, and Elvis were part of the famous Louisiana Hayride. The room is spacious. It features a sitting area with a private exit to the back patio. The huge en-suite features two vanities, one of which has articulating mirrors on the walls. You can get a 360 view of that awesome outfit for that evening dinner or for your wedding day outfit. Closet space galore! The sink faucets in brass and crystal are replicas of old perfume atomizers.
The second bedroom is dedicated to Johnny Cash. Cash wrote his first #1 hit, I Walk the Line while backstage at his performance in Gladewater in 1956. The Cash bedroom also has a seating area as well as a window nook perfect for calm reflection and relaxation. The en-suite features bamboo fiber wallpaper with bamboo print on it. There is a vanity, walk in closet, and a separate shower-tub combo.
The third bedroom is dedicated to Carl Perkins. Presley, Cash, and Perkins were all integral to the birth of rock music and modernization of country music. Not to mention the influence they had on each other. Elvis’ hit “Blue Suede Shoes” was written and performed by Carl Perkins. Cash presented a song to Perkins who told him that he needed to title the song “I Walk the Line”. Perkins wrote, produced, and performed music well into the 90’s. This bedroom features big windows that look over the beauty of the front yard. The en-suite has the most ornate and impressive vanity in the house. From the gilded wall sconces to the brass and crystal faucets, and to the gold inlay in the wash basin, this is spectacular space.
The home also features two huge family rooms. The main family room off of the grand entrance has a huge wood burning fireplace with an equally impressive wood mantle. Features a wet bar, plenty of seating, and huge floor to ceiling sliding glass doors. These doors truly allow for feng shui. The door opens wide to allow guests to flow between the inside and outside areas. Home and nature come together. Perfect for morning yoga (no goats please😊) or just reading on coffee. Later family gatherings for drinks, games, or just good conversation.
The second family is right of the Elvis room, and it features floor to ceiling windows. The sliding doors open the patio on one side or the pathways on the other. Another beautiful fireplace and mantle in this area as well. This room has warm wood flooring and wood paneling. Beautifully appointed with period appropriate mid century modern furnishings. Both living rooms have vaulted ceilings and are just so open and inviting.
There are two dining rooms as well. One formal and one informal. The formal dining room again features floor to celing windows with sliding glass doors that open out to the beautiful back yard. A classic and elegant chandelier is the centerpiece of this room. It even has a butler’s pantry with a warming station. There is a classic console stereo with record and & 8-track players. The informal dining room is a warm and relaxing family dining area that features a huge buffet wall with cabinets.
The kitchen is a huge feature in this home. This is a perfect place for big family dinners, party preparation, and catering. The huge island has a cooktop and skillet. An operational vent hood is situated above the island. The appliances are all top end unit for the 70’s and today. Thermador cooktop and ovens, as well as massive Sub-Zero fridge and freezer combo.
Guests will enjoy the use the estate house, the arena, and the grounds. We do have bulls in the SE pasture. They prefer to be left alone so we ask that guest not enter into their pasture. However, the north pasture is open. There are some wildlife trails in the area that you can explore.
Situated on 140 acres within the heart of Gladewater. Backs up to Lake Gladewater. Plenty of parking for our guests. Bring your boat, ATV's, or horse trailer.
20 stall horse arena with observation deck. Bunkhouse with restrooms. Wash down rack and pastures.
We believe guests will be transported back to an earlier time and place while staying at the Gladewater Ranch. We encourage you to disconnect, relax, and enjoy yourself.
