Experience Three Sisters Sanctuary in Goshen, MA

Prepare yourself for an incredible experience at Three Sisters Sanctuary! You are sure to cherish every moment. Guests experience such a feeling of peace here and ability to leave their troubles behind. Every corner has been filled with love and creative attention making for a truly magical place.

Included in the apartment rental is day and evening admission to Three Sisters Sanctuary for our guests. The Sanctuary is a place of healing and inspiration. It consists of seven outdoor “rooms”, which include over 200 standing stones, water gardens, sculpture, the Dragon’s Den, and a stone amphitheater. The Sanctuary is a venue for creative arts and events and can be rented with the apartment. Richard M. Richardson has owned the property since 1973 and is also the proprietor of the Good Times Stove Company located on site. It houses New England’s largest stove museum and showroom.

Apartment conveniences include: flat-screen TV, wireless internet, and cell phone service for most providers. The kitchen is fully-equipped including coffee maker with coffee provided and toaster oven. For those planning to cook please note the refrigerator is a dorm size. Window air conditioners and fans, as needed seasonally. Iron and ironing board, hairdryer. Quality linens included in rent.

Richard M. Richardson lives on site and is happy to be of assistance to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. A 40-year resident of the area he's happy to provide local information as needed.

Countless year-round opportunities to enjoy nature in the immediate area with skiing at Blanford Ski area, Ski Butternut, Berkshire East, miles of trail walking and lakeside swimming next door at the DAR State Reservation and rivers to explore with Zoar Outdoor Adventure Resort. Located near several hubs of arts, culture, and adventure between the Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires, and is the perfect place to stop on a trip to Vermont for skiing or sightseeing. Northampton (the “5 College” area) and scenic Shelburne Falls are an easy 20-25 minute drive away, and a trip to the expansive Mass MoCA art museum takes just over half an hour. Free museum passes to many prominent museums including MassMoca, The Clark and Norman Rockwell.

This space can be enjoyed in all four seasons. Your experience here is meant to be inspirational, reconnecting you to art, nature and the joy of life.

We loved the magical Three Sisters Sanctuary. A great home base for exploring the area and the sanctuary itself which is a work of beauty, grief, and joy. The merging of nature and art is spectacular.

We loved our stay! Very unique, lots of character. It's on a somewhat busy road, so there was some car noise, but the air conditioner drowned it out. Would definitely visit again!

I had a fantastic stay at the Three Sisters Sanctuary! It is such an inspiring and relaxing place to stay and be creative. I was on a writing retreat and was able to write over 8,300 words in this ruminative and energizing environment.

Loved our stay at Three Sisters. We were four people and had plenty of space. The apartment had everything we needed. The grounds are amazing and an added treat. And Richard was very responsive and had great communication! Would definitely stay here again!

Richard has truly created a beautiful and comfortable space. We enjoyed all of the artwork and furnishings, the lending library, and of course, the property grounds. Richard was a wonderful host, ensuring we knew he was available if needed and offering suggestions, but at the same time leaving us to enjoy our stay. We definitely look forward to another stay in the spring!

It’s hard to put into words what an amazing experience it is to stay at The Three Sisters Sanctuary. We felt profoundly welcomed by our hosts- Richard, the Painted Lady apartment and the grounds themselves. It was such a gift to be able to spend time in the sculpture gardens and environment while we were there and learn more about all of the spaces and Richard’s vision. We hope to return the next time we are in the area and highly recommend staying and/or visiting!

I'm from New Jersey, but I've been living here in Goshen, MA for over 50 years. I enjoy meeting guests and chatting as time allows and learning how people find this special place, and what they are up to that brings them this way.

Perché ha scelto questa struttura

The D.A.R forest and the wetlands surrounding the property make up most of the neighbors and neighborhood, though other people do live on this street and do interesting and creative things. Institute of Musical Art, Holy Cross Campground, are very close.

Cosa rende unica questa struttura

Not everything at Three Sisters announces itself like the dragon or Father Time. Some discoveries require you to slow down completely. In the bathroom of our rental, two separate canvases hung on shelves, one above the other. Alone, neither seemed especially meaningful. Together, arranged exactly as they were, they formed a single feather. I loved it instantly: a small, quiet moment of completion tucked somewhere no one was required to look.
Throughout the property, and inside the house, pieces by other artists appear in unexpected places: a glass panel here, a mosaic there, each folded into the landscape as if it had been born there. Somewhere along the way, this became more than one man's private vision. It became a gathering place, welcoming other people's art the same way it invites visitors to leave a photograph among the dragon's stones.
My favorite hour to walk the property was early morning. There is a long row of glass sculptures set in wooden frames, their backs turned to a wetland full of frogs, lily pads, and cattails. When the sun comes up behind them, the whole row catches fire with light. It is the kind of image that makes you stop walking and remember to breathe and appreciate beauty when it presents itself and you are lucky enough to see it.
