Historic home in an amazing location!
We had the best time in Cedar Key! The home is located in the most convenient area. It is very quaint with a wrap around porch and has all you need. You can walk to breakfast and coffee a shop that is a few hundred feet away and walk to the shops/restaurants on the water over the bridge so you don’t have to worry about parking. This home is not even a block from the bridge. We also rented a golf cart which made exploring other parts of the town that much better! We had the best time and will definitely be back!
The house is adequate. Nothing fancy at all.
The location is good for walks to restaurants and tourist shops. I do highly recommend “The Daily Grind,” a coffee-tea and food corner shop-superb service and delicious food.
The cottage is very close to the gulf, with lovely sunset views. But if you want luxury, this isn’t it.
Parking at the cottage is on the street. And we attempted to park as close to the cottage as possible. Sadly, the unprotected spot invited a hit and run with damage to our vehicle the first night. We are out some $2,700 in damages as a result.
This is a golf cart community and the drivers ignore the posted speed signs. The officer who responded to write up the report was great, but even he suggested that the golf carts are a menace to residents and visitors.
We were taking this short weekend trip as a sabbatical away from the full-time care of an elderly parent. We just needed some downtime. Instead, we now must have our car repaired and feel very frustrated that the “picturesque” cottage offered no escape from the cares of our normal challenges nor the callousness and irresponsibility of others.
Parking is always an issue in a small, historic downtown. There is parking for two cars in front of the cottage is actually off street. The driveway just happens to run with the road and is technically on the right of way, like all of the homes on 1st St (we have had a dually truck and 25’ boat parked there before with no issues). There is also a wider side street on the right side of the cottage. Additionally, a full city lot is available 1 1/2 blocks north of the cottage and another one with lined parking places 1 1/2 blocks east of the cottage. Our blocks are small and it’s a minute walk either way. Advising us of your concern would have allowed us to let you know about other options. We had no idea that this even happened or was an issue in any way. This home has been in VRBO for several years and we have never had this issue before. We are so sorry that this happened to you. We are sure that is not the weekend you had in mind, nor did we.
As far as the cottage, it’s very much Cedar Key. It not supposed to be fancy. We don’t want it fancy. For a 2 bedroom house that is less than the price of a hotel room, it’s comfortable, it’s historic, it’s simple. We would never want to present it as anything else. We do not claim in our listing that it is luxury or high end in any way. we feel the pictures accurately portray the home.
It is sad that your needed getaway was a disappointment. We hope that you’ll read all of our five star reviews and give a simple cottage in a simple town another chance.
Ida Bell cottage
Nice little house. Very clean and very well equipped. Short walk from everything on Dock Street. We very much enjoyed our stay here. We would definitely stay here again.
The one star for communication with the property manager is because I couldn't establish any. We had an easy question, tried to call and tried texting. Neither was answered.
Thank you so much for taking time to review Ida Belle! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. I am so sorry you had an issue trying to contact us. I’m really not sure what happened there, as I don’t show any unanswered texts and no voicemails about the cottage. I also cannot see any questions in the VRBO app, which I am really quick to respond to. Our contact info is normally on the side of the fridge and I will go double check to make sure it hasn’t disappeared. It’s unfortunate because I am literally only one block away. For future stays, my contact number is in your confirmation email. I don’t want any communication issues so I thank you for the feedback. I’ll look into that immediately.
We appreciate the great care you took of the house and welcome you back anytime!

Amazing House, great story too!
We went with our military friends on a great motorcycle trip. The house story fell right in with my sailor heart and navy memories. We played cards in the evening around the table like old times. We would love to stay again in the future.
Great location to shops, restaurants
We enjoyed being able to walk to the downtown area - shops, hardware, restaurants. The cottage was very clean and stocked with numerous cooking utensils. Wonderful to have the parking space in front of house. Highly recommend this cottage.
