We fell in love with the Dominical area while visiting in 2004 while attending a Spanish language school in town. We found this rare parcel of ocean-front property and began the long process of building three lovely villas that are nestled into the shoreline jungle, while being as close to the beach as possible. We wanted a property where families could rent one, two, or three of the villas and no one would get short-changed. The two families that own the property both travel extensively, and have a good idea of what other travelers expect. No one wants to be "nickel and dimed" with extra charges and harsh penalties: they want to be treated fairly and get good value for their travel budget. That's our goal with Caballitos del Mar. Each villa has the same floor plan, but each also feels different due to the different views of the ocean and gardens. The ground floor is accessible, and has the advantage of a bedroom that opens right out onto the terrace and pool areas. A great room, with living room, dining area and kitchen, is the hub of the house, allowing a cool place to cook, use a computer, or dine. The upstairs features two bedrooms; one which is a "master" with ensuite bathroom, and one which has two beds and is frequently used by children. We chose YouGetHere to manage our property because they have the same high standards that we do, and they keep a close eye on the amenities and condition of the property so that no guests are disappointed. They can provide tour information, arrange for a private chef, or just answer questions about the area. We love being close to the beach and close to town. Dominical is a quiet, sort of funky village that has lovely, locally-owned restaurants and shops, with a feeling of casualness and a love of nature. Surfing appears to be the draw for many, but it's really the closeness of the community to Costa Rica's biodiversity that permeates the place. All tourism is "ecotourism", and it's not a marketing ploy, it's the real deal. The shoreline is constantly changing with the tide and the season. One day it's smooth sand, and the next day it's full of smooth pebbles from the constant movement of the surf. With tides in the 3 meter range, the appearance of the beach changes from compact to vast over the course of six hours. The afternoon showers which occur for about half the year bring some exciting changes in the weather, but only for an hour or so at a time.
