The host had everything in her home you would need for a great get-away. My husband and I wanted to spend time on the Lake and this property is a mile walk or bike ride away from beautiful Cherry Beach.

This was perfect place for 4 adults and one 6-yr old grandson (“there are toys!”). Layout was great, well stocked kitchen, another queen bed and big sofa for TV watching in finished basement. Hot tub (didn’t use), privacy and great location. Enclosed breezeway for hanging everything wet from beach. Easy biking since it’s just off trail that runs from Sawyer to Michigan City (I think - I turned around in New Buffalo). We will definitely try to stay there again when visiting our family nearby.

We loved our stay! The house is incredibly well-stocked and we were so glad to have the beach chairs. The window a/c units and fans did a great job of keeping us cool once we got them going. (First few minutes were toasty.) Our group had a second house where we also spent a lot of time, so we didn't use the hot tub or hammocks but would definitely have put them to use if we'd been there more! Communication was amazing and Patricia was so helpful! I'm ready to move to the area now. :)

Cons: The comforters/bedding was not clean. The bunk bed smelled of urine. The window air conditioners are full of mold or mildew, visibly. No ac in the living areas. The basement layout has changed so there were 2 less beds (futons) than expected. The top bunk upstairs is so close to the ceiling that it is not usable even for a child. The hot tub was dirty and got too foamy to use. I hace a tub at home and the water in this unit desperately needs changed. Pros: The kitchen has almost anything you might need. Living room upstairs was nicely laid out for group hang outs. The outdoor area is large and had a fire pit. Hammocks were a cool touch.

This is disappointing to be informed of these issues through this review. I am very responsive to my guests, and I strive to make sure they have what they need. Had you contacted me about your complaints, I could have remedied them or compensated you for your discomfort. We all know that sometimes unexpected things happen, and when they do, we fix them. For example, the hot tub water could have been changed, AC units could have been cleaned or replaced, and I could have directed you to the queen-size sofa bed that replaced the full-size futon (in the written description, but the photo wasn’t updated). In cases when there isn't a quick fix or it would be too inconvenient for the guest, we can come to an agreement for a different solution. My cleaner is very hard-working and honest, and she’s worked with me for a decade. I promise the bedding was clean. I could find any evidence of urine smell on either of the mattresses in the bunk room; perhaps it had faded by the time I read this review. Regardless of the accuracy of either of our claims, I wish you would have contacted me for a solution instead of informing me through this review.

The Lux Nest property was very nice and location was excellent. It was just my husband and I so we had plenty of room. The home was well stocked and the back yard patio was very relaxing. Did not use the hot tub so can't comment on that. The king size bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, which is usually never the case at a rental. There is a small brewery literally right around the corner and a pizza place across the street. Most everywhere we wanted to go was within 15 to 20 minutes away. The only caveat I would say is the staircase to the downstairs area is a little steep and the stairs are a bit narrow. Otherwise, we enjoyed ourselves very much and would definitely consider renting this property again!

Had a fabulous stay! Felt like being at home for a week, our boys loved the toys and new books to read. We loved the hot tub and the big comfy king bed! Everything was well stocked, was one of our best VRBO stays to date! Would recommend and have already passed the listing on to other friends, we can't wait to come back!

Felt like Home!

I am a born-and-bred city girl, having grown up less than a mile south of Wrigley Field in East Lakeview, a bustling Chicago neighborhood. I went to both public and parochial schools in Chicago and my summers were spent at the Chicago Park District's day camps and swimming in Lake Michigan. I love The Lake.

Although I left Chicago for college and travel, I couldn't get Chi-town out of my system and returned there when I was 27. I am now a Chicago Public School teacher and live in Chicago (of course!) five miles west of Wrigley with my husband, two kids, and a dog.

Every summer, I would spend hours in Lake Michigan and I've never wanted to be far from it. It was a life long dream to have a "summer home" where I could invite my friends and family and the kids could roam the roads and collect toads and rocks, the adults could unplug, we could spend days at the beach or hanging in the yard, we could grill our dinners, unwind at a local bar or around the fire, and really connect with the people that matter most and make memories that will last a lifetime. I looked for this special place for years.

And then I found it! The Lux Nest is everything I envisioned! The yard has the perfect climbing tree, a creek to explore, the right amount of shade for a restful nap in the hammock, a hot tub to melt the stress away, a finished basement for extra living space, and an easy drive from Chicago.

I fell in love. I've loved every minute I've spent there and I'm so happy to be able to share it.
