Anytime we had a question about anything our host, John, responded quickly. Beautiful location along the Songo River - just be prepared for friendly interactions with boaters waiting on the river for their turn through the lock. Otherwise a fairly quiet spot. Comfortable house for a large group; we were a party of 11 adults. Beds were comfortable, kitchen well stocked, nice fire pit and probably the nicest dock along the river to hang out on.

Excellent accommodations beautiful place

Had a wonderful time, plenty of things to do. The Songo River place was very relaxing with the deck and swimming area. Met the owner John, he was very informative about the surrounding area and what to see and do. Very close to Sebago Lake. Overall would return the next time we come to Maine.

Before I address anything about our weeklong stay, I have to start with the unfortunate fact that we had 3 bat sightings in the house during the week we were there. We made the host aware. In hindsight, I suspect we should have left the house after one was first spotted flying around the hallway, but we didn't see them again until our last night there. I hope that the host has taken the expected measure to assure the house is now sealed up. If you see a bat in the house, you should leave and contact VRBO for advice.Other than that, the house was lovely. It has an old campy vibe with lots of great spaces for people to gather. We did puzzles on the screen porch, played ping pong and darts in the rec room, and spent a lot of time on the huge dock jumping into the lovely clear river. The water temperature was so much warmer than what we expected making it comfortable to swim all day.The kitchen was well stocked. The beds and lines were comfortable enough, but nothing luxurious. Since the house is right before the river lock, boats line up on the river next to the dock while they wait for the bridge and lock to open. There was a line most of the day on the weekend, but the weekdays were quieter. It didn't feel unsafe to swim since the boats were usually stationary while they waited. We really did love our time at the house. I think everyone learned a lot about bat safety from the experience.

Becky and her group were great renters; they were responsible, very respectful and communicative regarding issues they experienced during their stay. Upon learning of the sighting within the house, I contacted Northeast Wildlife Services of Maine. They finished their week and managed to enjoy their vacation under the given conditions. I commend them for their patience and perseverance. I have since remediated the bat issue with professional services according to the Maine Environmental laws. It was a learning experience. Thank you, Rebecca, to you and your guests.

Roomy Retreat

Our group of 14 (6 adults and 8 kids ranging from 3-18) had a super week at John and Andrea’s place. There was plenty of room for us all and the layout of the house worked well for our group. The new dock was beautiful and much used during the week for swimming & kayaking. We also enjoyed the ping pong table and fire pit. Kitchen was well equipped for a group our size. River traffic was high on Saturday but light the rest of the week and did not interfere with our enjoyment of the dock and river. Host promptly answered our questions. Very enjoyable week!

Charming house on Songo River

Perfect sized house for our large group. Only a few concerns if you have elderly family members: there are several transitions that can be trip hazards and also some low spots in the floors, most likely from the building settling. Many cabins in Maine have additions added to accommodate larger families- watch Maine Cabin Masters episodes. We also experienced a Maine heatwave that made it a little uncomfortable with no AC for some of the older ladies. This was unusual weather so we cannot fault the host. Fishing was slow on the river but most of us were able to catch some bass and small yellow perch. We chartered with Captain Glen at Sebago River Fishing if you want a great fishing experience. We enjoyed using the canoes and paddling up to Brandy Pond. Our greatest accomplishment for our stay was watching our 9 year old nephew overcome his fear of jumping from the dock into the river. He spent hours swimming in the river. This was great because he usually spends too much time playing video games. The internet would go down many times each day and need to reboot.

Thank you, Chris, for the honest comments and suggestions. I am going to e-mail Maine cabin master's to see if they would consider doing some updates to our lodge.

Great place for a big family

The Songo River Lodge is an excellent venue for a large family. Lots of space to spread out. Dock is 30 feet wide and has plenty of space for sunbathing, watching the boats go by as they pass through the Loch, or a great place to tie up your own boat. We very much enjoyed the Lodge. The big plus was the number of bedrooms. The beds were comfortable. The two living areas allow for relaxation and quiet times. The Kitchen was adequately furnished with cookware and appliances. However, the door to the refidgerator does not fully open and makes it difficult to use. The enclosed porch/dining area was large enough to hold the entire family. The owner was quick to respond to any issues that came up. I do recommend this property however, you should contact the owner directly to ensure that you bring everything that you need. We brought our own linens as indicated on the web site. These were not necessary as there were linens provided. Bath towels were in short supply and we were lucky to have brought those along as well. There are many floor level changes throughout the house. They can be trip hazards and should be something that you consider if you have anyone in your party that has mobility issues. Overall it was a wonderful week and the Lodge was very comfortable.

Perfect for multiple families

Property is great for multiple families! Right on the Songo River with access to both Long Lake/Brandy Pond and Sebago. We had kids ages 4-14 and all had a great time jumping off the dock and fishing. We rented a boat and enjoyed days tubing and hanging on the sand bars at both Sebago and Brandy Pond. Owners were very responsive to any questions.

Big place with a great dock and beautiful water

Not many places that can sleep 15 and give you great spaces outdoors. We had a terrific time hanging out on the big dock and jumping in the 12’ deep pristine river to cool off. We had a canoe race, ping pong tournament and huge family dinners. If your not super fussy this is a perfect place for your big family to gather and enjoy. The State park just .5miles gives easy access to hiking trails and camping for overflow family members. The boaters that pass by are friendly and a source of entertainment.

Excellent vacation

Everything that was advertised was excellent. The weather cooperated, the new deck was used most of our stay for swimming, fishing, canoeing and lounging. Our teenagers enjoyed the table tennis and workout room. Bedrooms, kitchen etc were all perfect. John, the owner was most accomodating and friendly.

Songo River Lodge - The Best Rental in the Sebago Lake Area!

We have family all over the United States (NH, ME, NY, VA, FL, KY, and AZ), so when we started discussing where to hold the family reunion we decided on Sebago Lake State Park. That was the easy part! Who knew there were so many vacation rentals in the Sebago Lake area -- not to mention we had no idea the proximity of these rentals to the Park. The deciding factor for our family renting Songo River Lodge was the accommodations -- 3 king beds, 2 queens, 3 doubles, and 1 twin. Most of the other rentals had double and queen beds and no kings! That coupled with the 3 bathrooms made it an easy decision. Little did we know we had selected the best rental property in the Sebago Lake area!! John and Andrea were very accommodating and made the whole rental process very easy. They greeted us upon our arrival, showed us around the property, and made us feel right at home. Not only does the Lodge have all the wonderful living/sleeping space; but the dock, fire pit, hammock, grill, and picnic tables allowed our family to enjoy the great outdoors. The biggest hit with our family was corn-hole – we had many fun hours spent playing this game! We also enjoyed visiting with the many boaters who were waiting for the lochs to open and even had one boater try to pay us the $15 fee for passing through the lochs! We have many special memories of this family reunion and most of them are at the Songo River Lodge! Thank you John and Andrea!!

Thank you Jessie and Wally. We really appreciate the kind comments on our lodge and we especially love hearing the story of an extended family coming to our lodge and creating the best of family memories as could be had on any family re-union. You were terrific guests and cared for the lodge as if it were your own, amazingly clean and kept as it was when you arrived. Thank you and may you have many more opportunities to create great family re-unions and memories. We are glad to have made your list of lasting memories. John.

Great place for a family vacation!!

From the start, the owners were friendly and helpful to assist in planning the vacation. They were eager to share their knowledge of the area and help you find closest grocery stores and area activities. When we arrive we found the lodge to be very clean and welcoming. There are lots of activities for all age groups (our family consisted of ages 4 – 85 years old). We held card and ping pong tournaments , canoe the river, swim off the dock, fishing, bike riding and relaxing around the great fire pit roasting marshmallows. The place is large enough that if you wanted to just relax and read a book, you are sure to find a quiet place. I recommend this place to anyone!!!

GREAT VACATION HOME

we were nervous renting a home without seeing it first but we were pleasantly surprised. the lodge is very nice and big enough for the 13 of us! Not only was there plenty of space but everything you could need is there. The house is on the river but the Sebago state park is right down the street. the dock is lovely to sit out on and watch the boats go by. catch some rays, read a book or enjoy a cocktail! the canoes were great for getting around on the water. we enjoyed the fire pit almost every night! Loved the antique stores everywhere and the closeness of any kind of store you need. would recommend to large families or a group of friends. if you have a boat it would be perfect!

John bought the lodge as a Bed & Breakfast in August of 2001 and got engaged to Andrea the next year. The first year they ran the bed and breakfast while taking bookings and commuting from Ma. Then our first child was born in 2003, Kylie and from then on they began full week rentals, year round by turning the lodge over to larger groups and the extended family, sleeping up to 15 persons. John continues to be a full time police officer in Reading, Ma. while Andrea practices her trade of hair dressing and raises their 3 charming little girls. The snack bar is open from Memorial day to just after Labor day and run by 'Missy' a Naples resident and a great short order cook, selling tasty sanwiches ice cream and cold beverages.

この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由

John was attracted to the property because he vacationed at the Sebago State park grounds as a youngster with his parents and 4 brothers and sister. The memories were permanently engraved as kids and the beauty of the area has not changed much. John and Andrea enjoy having the extended family get together and reminis about the old days of camping at Sebago Lake and Brandy Pond.

この宿泊施設の特徴

This lodge is ideal for the larger group of professionals for business retreats or festivities and the extended family right down to the grandkids. Everyone can find something unique to do that fits their personality, from swimming, canoeing, relaxing in the hammock, watching the boats go by or just finding a private place to read, nap or relax. There is always a ping pong game challenge going on in the 2nd floor screened in game room. The winters are picturesque and serene. Again a place of peace and tranquility. You can also choose to find any number of winter sports such as skiing, tubing, snow shoeing, or other favorite winter past times. The lodege has been modernized with new carpet, wood floors, windows and general interior improvements. The exterior was professionally landscaped and a beautiful brick patio was added in 2009. We have planned on pasing the lodge down to the next generation, so the improvements will continue as needed and as funds permit.
This is a beautiful lodge for any larger group to create some fond and lasting memories.
