At the heart of the Lyth Valley are the villages of Bowland Bridge, Crosthwaite and Underbarrow, all of which have roads leading to Kendal, a market town situated on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Windermere, with its panoramic views over England's longest lake, is within a short drive and boasts a number of shops, pubs and restaurants, whilst its twin town Bowness offers boat trips to Ambleside and Lakeside, where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated.
