Newly converted fresh, airy hideaway near Whitby


Sleights village is a gem of a village just on the outskirts of Whitby and at the foothills of the North York Moors. For those who enjoy a stroll, Whitby is an hours walk away.
You will stay in a airy bright and recently converted self contained studio which has it's own entrance and is part of a large Victorian Villa. Please be aware that there are steps leading down into the garden where the entrance is situated (may not be suitable for guests who have limited mobility). Guests will enjoy the privacy of the Hideaway with their own outside seating area. They can relax on the luxury Simba mattress that promises a good nights rest after a busy day.

The space
Hillgarth House is named as it is a 'house on a hill'. As such Hillgarth Hideaway is approached down a set of steps into the well lit garden of the house.
The Hideaway has it's own front door which is entered from the back garden. There is a key safe to make it easier for our guests.
Our aim is to provide our guests with fresh, airy, clean, stylish comfort. The kitchen is fully fitted with a full Bosch oven and hob. The bathroom is equally stylish with a walk in shower and fluffy towels for your comfort.

Delightful hideaway

Perfect in every respect. Immaculately clean, every kitchen aid you might need and a very comfy and spacious bed. Certainly wouldn’t hesitate to stay again in the lovely area of Staithes.

A perfect get away

A fantastic place to stay, great to have parking and outside space. Clive and Sarena have supplied everything you need for your stay including maps for walks and directions which we found useful. We were very thankful for the biscuits, tea, coffee and milk etc when we arrived. Their local knowledge and recommendations of places to visit were gratefully received. It's definitely somewhere we'd love to return to.

The perfect hideaway for a trip to Whitby

This is the perfect spot! Lovely, clean, comfortable. Has everything you need. We didn't spend much time here as we were out and about exploring. The location is perfect. There is a train station at the end of the road, so easy to get into Whitby to save the hassle of parking. And a really good bus service, which we used on the way back. There are also lots of other places around the area to visit, we would definitely book again if we were back in that area.

Country living

Property was as advertised, very nice, reasonably priced. The address was a bit of a problem for google maps, we did have bit of a challenge finding it. Parking was good. They said it had steep stairs to access, and it does! Overall a great stay!! I have had a big problem getting my email address corrected on VRBO. That has nothing to do with the Whitby property, but does present a difficulty communicating.

An excellent place to stay

This is a lovely little self contained holiday apartment located within / at the rear of the owners home which is very useful as they are very attentive & helpful in making your stay a very pleasant one. The hosts are charming and we spoke to Sarena quite a bit during our 3 nights there, she was so knowledgeable about the surrounding area & even took the trouble to draw maps and directions for walks nearby that we intended on doing. This accommodation is located a stones throw from Whitby and surrounding areas. The check in process is easy with a key safe on the wall & dedicated parking, plus plenty of free on road parking if you have more than one vehicle. Hosts Sarena & Clive have made this place so welcoming and have provided complimentary tea & coffee, fresh milk in the fridge, and fresh biscuits from the local bakery in the village. It is spotlessly clean throughout, decorated & finished to a very high standard with everything you could ever need. It is so cosy & quiet to relax and have a great nights sleep. This is such a lovely place to stay and we will definitely be returning here when we are visiting Whitby again. This place is a credit to the owners, thank you Sarena.

Incredible facilities and a lovely area to stay! Thankyou Clive and Sarena!

We were made to feel so welcome by Clive and Sarena. The check in process was easy, and the facilities were perfect. There was plenty to do in the local area, with the centre of Whitby only being a 5-10 minute drive down the road. The information in the welcome guide was super helpful and gave us ideas of more places to visit. The local area was really nice with plenty of places to walk to. We really enjoyed and would definitely recommend. We would love to stay again.

We have lived in Yorkshire for years and adore it. We have brought our children up in Whitby and they are truly Yorkshire!
Walking, mountain biking and having a few jars of real ale now and then, have been a familiar feature in our lives, hence why we live in Whitby.
We would welcome others to Hillgarth Hideaway which was converted in 2020. There are lots of ideas and helpful hints of what features are local in our Welcome Pack, but we are always here or contactable if you need any additional help.

Whitby is a lively and popular historic fishing town and it has lots to explore. Additionally the villages surrounding the Town are equally interesting such as Goathland (Heartbeat Country), Grosmont (steam trains) and Robin Hoods Bay (Smugglers village).
We are situated in the perfect location to easily access the smaller villages as well as Whitby Town - the added advantage is we have plenty of free parking and a very cosy and well equipped Hideaway!

You will also have your own outside space with garden furniture. It is a little sun trap in the Spring and Summer months.
It is newly converted so you can be assured of a well equipped stay that is modern and fresh.
