The Farmhouse is situated inpeaceful surroundings with open views over the Charentaise countryside, it has 2 double bedrooms (1double & 1 double & single bed), theres a large landing area with a double bed settee too. Theres a full bathroom with a roll top bath. Spacious lounge with French & English tv and free Wifi. Dining kitchen with all amenities ie. Dishwasher, Washing machine, Fridge/Freezer, Microwave, coffee machines, iron & board. Access to the garden and large 11x5 secured outdoor swimming pool with sunbeds. We are situated in the Charente Maritime on the west coast of France. Nearby are the historic towns of La Rochelle and Rochefort & Surgeres. This area is rich in History with many forts, Romanesque churches, castles and Chateaux. Sandy beaches just 20 mins.
The 17th century Farmhouse, Pigeonnier & Pressoir have recently been renovated to a very high standard. Each gite is fully equipped with everthing you would need for a fantastic holiday. We are surrounded by rolling countryside with fields of sunflowers & wheat, close to a pretty Charentaise village with local shop, bar, post office and a local restaurant specializing in local cuisine. Nearby there’s fishing, cycling, pony riding and lovely country walks.
WIFI is available in each of the properties.
Outside there's a seating area for each of the gites, bbq, large garden, children's play area and free use of cycles. There is a large 11x5 meter swimming pool secured by stone walls and a locked gate for safety reasons.
There is one off road parking space per gite in the courtyard of the farm.
Sorry pets are not allowed in the Farmhouse, we have 2 other smaller gites that we allow pets in.

There's a the bar/restaurant/shop in Landrais, village post office, Artist studio and a Garage (it's not possible to buy Petrol).

Antique Markets (brocantes) & Car boots (vide greniers) usually most weekends from April through to October.

La Rochelle has some of the best fish restaurants dotted around the old port and all along the coast. You'll find several museums, Aquarium, Boutique shops, beautiful old stone architecture & boats rides etc.
All along the coasts there are long sandy beaches some of the best are Chatelaillon, Fouras, Ile d'Oleron & ild de Ré.

Lovely, peaceful farmhouse with great hosts

We had a lovely week staying at Nigel and Suzanne’s farmhouse. The house is a really nice place to relax, and tastefully decorated and with plenty of space. The pool is great, especially on the really hot days, and the loan of the bikes was much appreciated for a quick ride to the local shops and further afield. There’s lots to see locally, especially Ile de Re, and La Rochelle. Nigel and Suzanne were really helpful and welcoming, and gave us some really helpful local info. We really enjoyed our time there.

Lovely rustic farmhouse.

We stayed here with two friends for four nights in June. The property is very pretty, surrounded by open countryside and fields, just on the edge of the village and about thirty minutes from La Rochelle. Suzanne and Nigel, the owners live in the other half of the farmhouse and made us feel very welcome and provide local knowledge if required. The farmhouse has sleeping for six people but as there are only two bedrooms, the upstairs landing is used as the third bedroom, probably suitable for kids but not too sure about two adults. Although we enjoyed our stay here, there were some issues that we feel need addressing. The second bedroom was lacking for storage and only had one power socket which was needed for a light as it was dark, also the kitchen and bathroom could be given a makeover to improve the comfort and amenities. These are just our opinion of our overall experience of our stay, and we would still recommend this farmhouse.

idyllic retreat in lovely setting

having recently returned from a lovely rejuvenating weeks stay in the beautiful farmhouse gite with our family,we can highly recommend it , it was very spacious and comfortable with simple French décor and a lovely ambience to the whole house and pretty courtyard its all set in, It was so good to revisit this lovely area again as we hadn't been here for many years , it was very nostalgic and brought many happy memories back, so lucky to find such a lovely little complex to stay in while doing so. We just want to say a huge thankyou from us all to Nigel and Suzzane for their wonderful hospitality a lovely friendly couple and perfect hosts where nothing was too much trouble,we wish them all the best for the future and hope to meet again. best wishes the church family

Lovely relaxing escape to the French countryside

The Farmhouse was beautifully decorated and very spacious. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The sitting room has British TV which helped us with 3 young children. The garden is communal which suited us very well because it was a place for the children in the other gites to join ours for a game of football or a play in the lovely little playhouse. The garden looks out over fields so you really feel you have escaped to a rural idyll. The children really enjoyed this sociable aspect of the holiday. The swimming pool is beautiful and safely locked away so there was no danger to our young children. There is so much to do within a short drive and we enjoyed day trips to La Rochelle, Il de Re, the seaside towns nearby and also an amazing day a bit further afield at Puy du Fou. Our son sobbed the whole way home he was so sad to have left such a brilliant holiday. Nigel and Suzanne were the perfect mix of friendly and helpful whilst still allowing us privacy to enjoy our family time. We could not fault this Farmhouse and have already booked for next year - for a longer stay and with my parents. Thank you Nigel and Suzanne

Great place to stay with family and friends, heartily recommend.

Loved our week at The Farmhouse. The house is beautifully renovated and has a relaxed feel to it. Bedrooms are a good size and a big bathroom with wonderful roll top bath. Fantastic sized sitting room with comfy sofa and TV, plus log burner for chilly days! Kitchen very well equipped with an excellent standard dishwasher, fridge and washing machine plus well functioning cooker. We stayed with our two year toddler and it was perfect. Lots of space for him to mooch about, both inside and outside. Toys and books are provided plus a big selection of DVDs. Listing is very accurate and all clean and maintained well. Nigel and Suzanne a friendly British couple and on hand to answer any questions and provide recommendations. They strike the balance perfectly between being in close proximity (they live in the other half of the Farmhouse) but not intruding in any way on the holiday. The garden is amazing: massive lawn with children's swings and a trampoline, plus my son's highlight - a lovely Wendy House. The pool is a good size, temperature wise was fine, was a restorative 25 degrees, welcome relief from the nearly 30 degrees sunshine! Usefully a good washing line and also good table and chairs in the shade for meal times. Great standard BBQ available to use. The area is stunning. Starting with amazing views from the house and driving out to places such as La Rochelle, Chatelaine sur Plage, Ile de Re etc., it's a perfect base for exploring the region. Supermarkets are very accessible, from the massive Carrefour near La Rochelle to the mid sized, well stocked Intermarche which are within easy, short drive reach. bicycles are available to use and my husband cycled each morning to a fantastic bakery in a nearby village. Might be worth taking a child seat if you want to take small children out for cycles as well. We were lucky enough to have friends join us, also with small children, so was a great time had by all! They stayed in Le Pressoir, which is smaller than the Farmhouse but just as well equipped and just across the driveway to the Farmhouse. Loved the week and will definitely return. Beautiful house, great location; all in all an easy and relaxed holiday was had by all!

Charming, relaxing and very friendly.

La Metairie de Monlieu surpassed our expectations. It really is surrounded by beautiful rural french countryside and fields of sunflowers. Nigel and Suzanne are perfect hosts - there for every need. The gites are charming and relaxing with lovely sized rooms and beautiful french touches. We had a family of 4 in the farmhouse and grandparents in the Pressoir and it was just perfect. Thank you to Louis who was a fantastic, fun host to our children too.

Wonderful holiday in a beautiful setting

We stayed in the farmhouse the last week in September and enjoyed a fantastic holiday. The weather was kind to us late in the season and we loved the rural setting of this gite. Quiet, peaceful and secluded but with loads to do in the surrounding area- everything we wanted from our holiday. Managed to visit Zoo, beaches, La rochelle, Surgere and Ile de Re but so much more to do if had the time The farmhouse is spacious and clean, beautifully decorated and met all our needs and that of our 1 year old. Nigel and Suzanne were incredibly welcoming and helpful and we will definitely be going back.

Le Pigeonnier Farmhouse location, La Rochelle and

We stayed in 'le Pigeonnier' which is ideal for a couple. This has been very tastefully renovated and has the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in whilst in France. Very well equiped and with a great DVD choice for those 'staying in evenings'. Recommend cycling along the Chatelaillon Plage and on Ile de Re, which is a must for shopping. We also enjoyed visiting Rochefort. The only reason we haven't given this gite a 5 star is because for us it was not as private as we have been used to, but otherwise we would recommend this property.

A Little dissappointed for the money.

We have stayed in a few gites in France now and was a little dissappointed with this one,as this was for us an expensive stay .We, as a family, found the location too far from anywhere.The location of the farmhouse is very pretty, set in open countryside with lovely views, but it took us atleast 30-40mintues+ to get to the coast.(could have been my navigating). Also, the other gites have all provided us with a basic start up for our arrival, i,e coffee bread jam milk,items like black bags, dishwasher tablets.None of this was at the farmhouse so take EVERYTHING, including toilet roll.As we like to cook, we found the kitchen a little basic with storage and utensils.The Farmhouse was clean and the hosts were happy to provide local info which we needed.The pool is not heated but this proved no feat for our two children who loved it. Our six year old daughter enjoyed all the outdoor toys provided, trampoline, house, swings etc. I would recommend this property if you are prepared to drive.

The farmhouse, landrais, la Rochelle

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday at the farmhouse. The accommodation is extremely spacious, decorated and maintained to a very high standard and in an environment, which ouses tranquility. The owners, nigel and suzanne and their children were extremely helpful and welcoming, which made our stay perfect. There was everything you could possibly need and the accommodation is located where you are away from it all but close enough to a wide variety of attractions if you manage to drag yourself away from the fantastic new pool and that good book you've been meaning to read. We did manage to explore the area and visted beautiful La Rochelle, the beaches at fourais, picturesque Saintes and nearby Surgeres, which is worthy of a look. We had a great time and would recommend this property to anyone with a love and appreciation for the good life.

The Farmhouse - Beautifully Presented

My wife, myself and our daughter Olivia (20 months) enjoyed a wonderful week in The Farmhouse, situated 20 minutes from the Atlantic coast and 5-10 minutes from a variety of differing sized villages. The location was perfect, surrounded by wheat fields, peaceful but without any feeling of isolation. Nigel & Suzanne were fantastic hosts offering advice on local beaches, destinations and attractions. There was another, smaller gite (The Pigeonniere), which was equally well presented, and a third one just approaching completion - again this appeared to be being finished to the same very high standard. The Farmhouse provides a huge amount of living space, and is decorated in a beautifully chic country style. It was spotlessly clean and equipped with everything required for a thoroughly relaxing holiday. The living room really isn't done justice by the web photos, it's a fabulous space providing lots of comfort and character. Equally the light bedrooms and bathroom are presented in a stylish and timeless fashion. Our daughter (less concerned by the interior design!) was freely provided a cot, stairgate, highchair, and toys on arrival – all this before she ventured outside the next morning to discover the swings, trampoline and a wendyhouse that was filled with all her heart could desire! The walled swimming pool had just been constructed before we arrived and this, together with the seating area and BBQ to the side of the house, provided more excuses often not to venture too far from home. We did get around though, and found Chatelaillon-Plage (20 mins), Foras (25mins), La Rochelle (30 mins) Ile de Ré (30/40 mins) all great days out and within very easy driving distance. Equally accessible was the fantastic zoo at La Palmyre / Royan. We would be delighted to return to stay here again, the situation of the gites would be perfect for extended families to stay occupying a couple of the properties together – maybe something for the future...
