Heart of pretty Yorkshire village

Newly renovated cottage in lovely Yorkshire village with 3 pubs. Cottage very clean and excellent communication with owners.

Cozy and cute

My partner and I rented this little place for 4 nights while we hiked Public Footpaths in the area. The furnishings are comfortable and the place is newly remodeled with all modern conveniences. Askrigg is small, but has everything you need (pubs) for a nice stay. The host/owner is professional and easy to contact. We loved everything about this place!

Pretty property with everything you need

Pretty property with everything you need. The ceiling height is a bit low on the upper floor. Otherwise we were very satisfied.

Excellent cottage

A very clean and tidy cottage just down the road which leads from Askrigg to Muker. The property contains everything that you could possibly need for your holiday, in fact the amenities were over and above what I have experienced before.Location is perfect, Askrigg is a wonderful place to stay set as it is in the heart of the Dales. Aysgarth is 4 or 5 miles East, Hawes is 4 or 5 miles West. Askrigg boasts 3 public houses / hotels, the furthest of which is at the most a 5 minute walk away. We only ate in “Middle House”, the food was superb and a decent sized portion to boost.Chatting to the landlord in Middle House he informed us that his parents at one point actually lived in Brook Cottage!I couldn’t fault our stay here, we had a great week and came away with loads of memories of our stay.

A very nice stay, with miscellaneous notes

Brook Cottage was a comfortable home for a week in the Dales. The bed was comfortable, though firm. The deep couch and a wool throw made curling up to watch a movie or read a book comfortable. It was quiet inside, even though a bank holiday weekend and only steps from the main road through town. Having a parking space across the street was handy. Being so close to the Crown Inn offered a comfortable option for several meals and having Bake-Well nearby is a wonderful treat. The footpath that started right across the main road was a nice introduction to the area and views. St. Oswald's was interesting to visit and I enjoyed the Sunday service.There were issues, of course, frequently of my own making. I tried to enter Brook House, around the corner, instead of Brook Cottage. Didn't work. I didn't know how to lock the front door. Learned from a very nice grandmother walking by with her grandson that you need to pull the handle up before you turn the key. Misinterpreted the term dryer to be an electrical machine with heat, as opposed to a metal frame on which I could hang wet clothes to dry. Sometimes I bumped my head on the ceiling's low spots and sometimes the hanging hearts protecteded me. The hosts were responsive and kind but sometimes I missed their messages (or things were out of their control, like when the repairman would be available). I hadn't expected Askrigg to not have a store where I could get milk and cereal but did enjoy its tranquility. Et cetera

Glad you worked it it how to lock the front door - we’ve just created a video for future guests based on your kind feedback! Sehr gute Lage, perfekter Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen, hochwertige Ausstattung des Cottages, geschmackvolle Einrichtung passend zur Region, sehr schönes geräumiges Schlafzimmer, Wohnzimmer und Küche auch geräumig, im Bad niedrige Decken und am Waschbecken wenig Licht, Küche tagsüber auch zu dunkel, aber perfekt ausgestattet. Heizung kann man nicht selbst steuern. Bett bequem. Kontakt zum Vermieter sehr nett und sofort hilfsbereit.

We have been regular visitors to Askrigg over the years (Sarahs uncle owned a cottage just down the road from Brook Cottage through the 1980-90s). We continued to visit Askrigg as a family until 2022 when we decided to buy Brook Cottage as a base for our family and our guests to explore this beautiful area.

Brook Cottage is comfortable and stylish with thoughtful additions such as quality bedding, thick towels, bathrobes and a generous welcome pack. Ideal for a small family holiday, for a trip with friends, or perfect for a romantic retreat for two.

All the furniture has been carefully chosen to ensure a comfortable stay, and the colours throughout are restful shades inspired by nature. There is wi-fi throughout and the cottage also benefits from having a smart TV as well as a Roberts bluetooth speaker to let you enjoy your favourite sounds. In the lounge, the wood burning stove will be ready to light and a generous supply of logs and kindling are provided to ensure you can enjoy cosy evenings by the fire.

The master bedroom has exposed roof timbers and is a spacious and restful room to relax in. The folksy-styled single bedroom has a full sized single bed but does have restricted head-height so please be aware of this if booking this room for a third adult. The bathroom and entrance cloaks area both have custom built cabinetry. The cottage has a recently installed electric heating system to keep you comfortably warm and the shower is powerful and efficient. The kitchen has an electric oven with induction hob and there is also a dishwasher and washing machine.

Askrigg is a charming village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, famous for featuring as Darrowby in the original series of All Creatures Great and Small. The village is ideally placed for walking and has 3 pubs, an excellent cafe, a craft shop, a newsagents/village store and also a small brewery.

The shops and pubs of Askrigg are just a short stroll from the front door, with the market town of Hawes around a 10 minute drive in one direction, with Leyburn around 15 minutes away in the other direction.
