Country Hideaways | Hill Top Cottage | Walden

Some three miles from West Burton, Hill Top Farm House and its adjoining cottage stand alone embraced by a small copse looking south to the wooded gills, meadows and moorland held in close relief on the other side of the valley. To the front of the cottage is a gravelled drive with large parking area and raised patio garden, a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the views.

A very beautiful, contemporary barn conversion, meticulously maintained by the property owners, retaining lots of character with all the modern comforts of home and offering a very high standard of accommodation.

Access is over the flagged patio at the front of the cottage with entry to a hall with separate toilet and washbasin. Adjoining the hall is a modern, well equipped kitchen with ample space for dining. Off the kitchen is a cosy stylish lounge with laminate floor and flagged hearth with multi-fuel stove. A stairway rises from the kitchen to a small landing that serves a double bedroom with brass bedstead and a TV, a twin bedroom and a shower room with large tiled shower cubicle, washbasin and toilet. Also on the landing is an external door leading to a flagged patio and seating area at the rear of the cottage which is a pleasant place to enjoy the evening sunshine.

There are wonderful panoramic views down to Walden beck and across the dale from the bedrooms, lounge and kitchen with spectacular views both up down the dale and out into Wensleydale from the patio, garden and around the cottage.

A cottage not to be missed, where you can truly unwind and relax.

Stay at Hill Top Cottage

We had a wonderful 5 days stay at this very clean and well equipped cottage. The host was very welcoming and had left a nice gift of cheese and wine. The views are amazing and it's ideally located to visit many nearby places of interest. There are many walks from the cottage. we enjoyed the peacefulness of the surrounding countryside and the sound of curlews, oyster catchers and owls. There are many pubs serving great food – a short drive away. We look forward to returning to this beautiful part of the Dales again soon.

Secret Valley stay

Our second stay here was just as wonderful as the first. Absolutely stunning location in a very quiet valley but still well connected for great walking. Pat and Rob are warm and welcoming, helpfully on hand but never intrusive.

A hidden gem

Hill Top cottage is one of the most comfortable and well equipped cottages we have stayed in. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and it is in a beautiful and tranquil location. We had lovely week away for it all and I highly recommend this cottage.

Beautiful cottage in a picturesque spot.

We had a lovely 4 day break at this cottage and we loved it. Views were amazing, cottage was cozy and had everything you need . The owners were very welcoming and on hand if you needed anything. Will definitely be returning 😍😍

A peaceful retreat

This was our fifth stay at Hill Top. We love returning to the peace and tranquility of the cottage. The views are wonderful and everything is always very clean and comfortable. Pat and Rob are relaxed and welcoming owners, it’s always good to catch up with them and we hope to return before too long.

Highly recommended

Get away from it all

A wonderful place to stay if you enjoy wide open spaces and a feeling of splendid isolation. This cottage is well equipped, cosy and comfortable and a great base for exploring Wensleydale it's a place we keep coming back to. Rob and Pat are so welcoming too we relax the instant we arrive here.

Excellent

Our second stay at this property. The cottage is clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Fantastic views and so quiet. Owners are friendly and welcoming. Excellent location for getting out and seeing this part of the Dales. Highly recommended

Another perfect holiday!

We've just returned from our 7th trip to Hill Top Cottage. It was as perfect as ever - delightful, well equipped, fantastic views, and a very warm welcome from the owners, Pat and Rob. Thank you for allowing us another annual 'Dales fix' - we're looking forward to next year already.

Totally Awesome!!! Absolutely beautiful scenery and host!

Everything was wonderful and with ease; from booking agents to the hosts. One of the top experiences I have had in a long time. It was like being in a living painting each day. I hope to return again next year!!

Autumn in the Dales...

We have stayed at Hilltop Cottage several times and always enjoy the peace and quiet, the beautiful Dales countryside, the wildlife outside the door and the lovely comfortable cottage. Rob and Pat were excellent hosts as ever and we will be back again for Easter 2024, can't wait!

Just Beautiful..........

A stunning view, a nice, clean cosy well equipped cottage, fantastic walks, good hosts AND complimentary cheese & wine. It's a little piece of heaven and I will definitely be returning next year. 100% recommend.

Splendid Isolation

This is a place of peace and tranquility and a haven for wildlife and it's not far from many of the beauty spots in the Yorkshire dales Aysgarth Falls and Cauldron force to name but two. We have stayed here many times and always receive a warm welcome from Rob and Pat. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable and well equipped and has superb views too it's perfect.

Highly recommended.

Another relaxing week in cosy Hilltop Cottage. Accommodation very good, owner nearby to troubleshoot any issues. We will return again to recharge our batteries from City life. Yet another perfect Dales holiday

This was one of many stays at Hill Top Cottage for our family and it never fails to disappoint. This warm, cosy cottage on the hillside has the most marvellous views and provides a perfect spot for peace and tranquillity. Pat and Rob are wonderful hosts and are always quietly around in the background for anything that's needed. The cottage is well equipped and has just about everything in it that you could need. Thank you for another wonderful holiday - we're already looking forward to the next time!

Get away from it all

This is a fabulous place to stay for so many reasons it's cosy,clean and comfortable. It's set in a remote area but not far from the many attractions in this area. Aysgarth water falls and Grassington to mention just two. We have stayed here for many years and love the wide open views of it's location and having the chance to see wildlife. We frequently see hares, owls, Red Kites. This year we saw 4 kestrels and a barn owl and herons at the nearby fall Cauldron falls at West Burton. If you love peace and tranquility this is the place for you.

Solitude and beauty.

If its peace and quiet that you are after in a totally rural and stunningly beautiful setting, then this is for you. The lane up from West Burton (3miles) is narrow in parts but it is rare to meet another vehicle and the views get better all the way to the cottage. The owners who live next door were themselves away on holiday but the cottage was fully equipped and all the necessary instructions were there. Despite some rather mixed weather and one stormy day, we enjoyed excellent walking from the door and, of course, further afield in the Dales generally. There is so much more to explore than we had time for. Highly recommended.

Peaceful seclusion

The cottage was easy to find and secluded rather than isolated as it was easy to walk or drive to the village. Very comfortable and fitted out with everything you would need whether as a single person or a family. Rob and Pat happy to help when needed but otherwise left to yourself. Views fabulous as were walks right from the door if you didn't want to take the car. The heating system so good I had to switch it off most of the time. It would be a great place to stay in the winter and use the multi fuel burner - so cosy. Would not hesitate to go back again. Sue Holmes
