While slowly but surely creeping into the 21st Century, Portocolom still retains the authentic charm, laid back atmosphere and gentle pace of life synonymous with its origins as a sleepy fishing village. Tucked away in a select, uncrowded neighbourhood on a virtually hidden headland (Sa Punta) towards the far side of the sweeping bay we found Ses Crestes. And what a find it is!
Bright, modern and welcoming this substantial semi-detached house not only provides visitors with a wonderfully comfortable holiday base but also the great convenience of being just a 125m walk from two little sandy coves and a simple beach bar/restaurant.
Being in the same family as the ever popular La Tierra Buena is surely one of the highest recommendations this lovely home can have. Looked after with equal care and pride to its sister property, all rooms are spacious, airy and well furnished with parquet flooring upstairs, a contemporary fitted kitchen and fashionable bathrooms. From the balconies off the living room and principal bedroom there are mesmerising sea views over the bay towards Portocolom centre, out to the village of S’Horta and all the way across to the imposing hilltop landmarks of Santueri and Sant Salvador.
Parents will be interested to note that the private swimming pool can be fenced off from inquisitive youngsters if desired (please ask us about this at time of booking) and inside, the thoughtful owners of Ses Crestes have also fitted retractable gates at both top and bottom of the house staircase to prevent little ones gaining direct access.
Immediately across the street an unmade path, opposite the house, leads down through scrubland to the little coves of S’Arenal Petit and S’Arenal Gran where the sandy shoreline shelves gently into the sea. To one side, rock pools provide an interesting diversion for young explorers while on the other a beach bar conveniently opens every day until late over the main summer months. Serving simple lunches, dinners, ice creams and cold drinks the bar also hosts occasional evening entertainment including live appearances by local musicians.
There is a pizzeria and a minimarket within 1.2km while the main harbour (2km) is home to a good selection of amenities including shops, banks, a chemist, supermarkets and some of the most highly regarded seafood restaurants found anywhere on the island. Vall d’Or golf course is 6.5km, there are tennis courts in Portocolom and Cala’d’Or (14km) and some very popular boat trips leave from the local harbour cruising along the coastline to remote coves for lunch and a swim.
While there are beds for 6 guests (see details above) the sleeping accommodation is suitable only for a maximum of 5 adults. In any group of 6 guests at least one guest must be a child under 10yrs of age. Air conditioning (if required) is on a timer with usage to be paid directly to the house owner at €70 per week. Rental Licence Number: ETV 2748
Please note that in addition to the property rental there is a local tourist tax to pay for all visitors aged 16 and over. €2.00 (€2.20 incl. IVA) (£2) per night for the first 9 nights, €1.00 (€1.10 incl. IVA) (£1) per night for each night thereafter per person. We will add this amount to your booking.
