Brian, we are sorry that you didn’t have a better experience. But this review does not accurately reflect our property or how we manage it, so it requires a detailed response. We personally stayed in the house two weeks prior to your arrival, and another family rented the house just before your arrival. Those referenced cleanliness issues were not present, and in fact, in the two days in between guests, we had the entire house cleaned, so we could take new photos throughout the house. Prior to your arrival, we happily agreed to an early check-in for 1pm. That morning, at 9:42am, we received a short message that you had to leave your previous place suddenly, and then you showed up at the house without any additional notice at 10am. Our manager had you in the house by 10:06am Normally, our property manager would have discovered the light switch during check-in, and he would have happily addressed any cleanliness concerns raised during your stay. Prior to receiving this review, we didn’t hear back from you, and we respect guest privacy and assumed the rest of your stay was fine. We’ve owned properties in Langosta for over five years and pride ourselves on addressing issues quickly. We introduce every guest to our local property manager, as well as a concierge for tours, excursions, or any other needs. Both are local, eager to help, and will pass along any concerns directly to us. We are also available and responsive to any guest concerns, and we will make every reasonable effort to make things right. Finally, we love sharing our homes with others and providing the best experience possible. We welcome all sorts of feedback, but embellishing cleanliness and other issues, or attempting to discredit other guest reviews is dishonest feedback. We are sorry that you did not have a more pleasant travel experience.

We are sorry your experience was not better. However, we must clarify a few things. The house is not in need of many repairs and has been in nearly full occupancy throughout the year, where our other guests enjoy a positive experience that we strive to provide. There are six A/C units (1/BR, 2 1st floor), which can cool their designated areas in 10-15 minutes. Three outlets had an electrical issue, which has been resolved. The water shortage is throughout the region, and each house has a reservoir that should last 2-3 days, with responsible water use. Mikel worked hard to find a truck the same night, when it can take until the following day. The doors can swell with humidity and stick (they still open/close), and we plan to “shave” them soon to alleviate that issue. It’s worth noting that Costa Rica is a developing country with harsh elements, so things will break. When this happens, everyone works hard to remedy the issues quickly, so guests can enjoy their time in our home. Langosta is hardly a construction zone (mostly residential), but like most of the country, there are a few new projects, even in our small neighborhood. We do our best to provide the best guest experience possible, but we realize that Costa Rica may not be a good fit for everyone. We are sorry you did not enjoy your visit and wish you well.

We are surprised to receive such a negative review. In order to provide our guests with the best experience possible, we contact each guest prior to and immediately after check-in. Also, we provide our guests with contact info (both of us, property mgr., and concierge), and we are responsive via VRBO’s portal. However, most of your concerns were not raised prior to issuing a damage claim to your group, which may be the inspiration behind your words. And since your review contains several inaccuracies, it requires a detailed response from us. 1. Mikel was not provided w/ your arrival timing, so he couldn’t turn on the A/C ahead of time 2. The pool is exactly as shown in the photos 3. The house is in fine shape (completely renovated in 2017). We recently added $20k in upgrades, including a new security system and beautiful teak wood privacy wall 4. Our family can walk to the beach in 4 mins 5. Tamarindo is 1 mile away, as noted in the property listing; guests can get around via car, golf cart, taxi, or walk 6. Towels: 18 bath towels + 20 beach towels; guests should never run out 7. Ants: house sprayed for pests (inc. ants & other insects); would have taken care of ants, if known 8. Repairs: all repairs completed within 24hrs – kitchen faucet & 1st floor toilet leak fixed upon check-in; dryer fixed w/in 24 hrs (part wasn’t in stock) 9. Water: issue due to excessive consumption, not a plumbing issue. Reservoir is 2-3 day supply & auto-fills from public water line (no monitoring req’d). Water truck called in to fill reservoir w/in 1hr 10. Damages: only 3rd claim in 7yrs, due to broken glass table top (aesthetic & safety issue), which req’d replacement. Other damaged items were inc. w/ claim (normally, we ignore a broken wine glass or missing towel) We stayed in the house just prior to your arrival, and it was absolutely fine. Inevitably, things break, but we pride ourselves on addressing things quickly and effectively, as we did with the few items at check-in. Much of your review is embellished and does not reflect the true condition of our property (or how we deal w/ issues). We are sorry that you didn’t have a good experience, but strongly disagree with the details provided in your review.

Thank you for your reservation and your review. We really do appreciate it. In regards to the sofa bed, we purchased a new mattress for it October 2017. I apologize that it was not as comfortable as you would like. Given this review, we are planning on replacing the existing sofa bed and sofa with a brand new one in May or June 2018. **Update- we now have a brand new sofa bed as of July 2018. We hope that it is more comfortable for all of our future guests.

Dear Don and Mark, We want to thank you for your rental and your review. We are thankful that we were able to accommodate your request for a complimentary early check in, since our normal check in time is 3PM. We were not expecting you until 9:30-10:30AM, so the cleaning staff were still finishing up when you arrived at 8:30AM and finished ahead of our agreed upon early check-in time. Likewise, the intercom was temporarily disconnected, while they were working, but it was immediately reconnected and works fine. We are sorry that your visit was not more enjoyable and wish we had an opportunity to address any of your concerns. Please note that we reached out to you during your stay, but did not hear back from you (nor did Mikel, our local property manager). Also, it is unfortunate that it was so windy during your visit, but weather in Costa Rica can be unpredictable. Our pool / landscaper services our home regularly twice a week, and due to the winds, we also arranged an additional pool cleaning the day after your arrival. Sincerely, Brian and Nikki
