Superb position - but comes with compromises
The position of the apartment could hardly have been better, everything is just a short walk away. Clean and comfortable, once you accept that the photographs are typical "estate agent" style and make the place look much bigger than it is.There were, however, a few minor irritations that marred the overall experience.• Check-in after 4pm and check-out before 10am felt excessive. A message to the owner on Vrbo asking for access on arrival received no response.• The air conditioner in one of the bedrooms was not plugged in, having been replaced with a plug-in air freshener. We fired it up and realised why. The smell that came into the apartment was appalling. We wavered between thinking that this was a very dirty unit and that it was coming in from a faulty drain outside - smelly drains being a problem throughout the city centre - but could never tie it down.• The iron leaked any water put into it straight through the bottom, making us feel that it was unsafe to use. A message on Vrbo to the owner about the air conditioner and iron problems also received no response.• We checked the opening hours of the bar downstairs before booking which said it closed at midnight. On two occasions during the eight days we were there, the revelry was still going on at 2:30am. Not the apartment owner's fault, but a factor to consider.Our stay was not a disaster, but could have been. The apartment's position is its greatest asset - the rest appears to be the price you pay for it.
