During our week stay, we were delighted with this charming townhouse situated on the lavender-studded grounds of a former villa. Proximity to an excellent bakery and to the heart of St. Remy within several blocks walk made for a great start to the day and easy exploration of this lively town, its wonderful restaurants and shops, and its splendid Wednesday market. Being located on a main road out of town also made getting out to explore the surrounding environs and sites easy.
The house is bright and airy with shutters and doors open. Everything was clean, well organized, and well maintained. We loved the spaciousness of the kitchen/dining area and the cozy living room that led to a small patio area, especially nice for morning coffee or an evening drink. The two upstairs bedrooms are quite comfortable, and the bathroom is nicely appointed. Armoires and a downstairs closet offer sufficient storage for clothes and suitcases. We very much appreciated the amenities such as Wi-Fi, washer and dryer, and dishwasher, as well as the starter supplies. Having a dedicated parking place within a gated community is a big plus as parking is hard to come by in busy St. Remy.
Although it was quite warm during our stay, having no air conditioning was not a problem. Rotating fans are available in the upstairs rooms. Do bring a sleep mask if you want to leave the shutters open at night for air circulation.
The townhouse is situated between two well-traveled roadways, leading in and out of town. Passing traffic does mean that some of the tranquility of the surroundings is lost; this isn’t a major drawback if you are prepared for it or are used to some street sounds. On weekends, motorcyclists and cars seemed to delight in racing noisily through town.
In terms of overall space, this small house is probably most ideal for two people, although four people can certainly be accommodated. It is a most welcoming place to return to after a day of touring.
Margaret, the owner, is as delightful as her townhouse. Her instruction manual for the house is extremely helpful, as are her recommendations for restaurants, shops, and places of interest to see. Speak with her ahead of time, and she’ll be glad to answer any questions you may have. She’ll also send you her recommendations ahead of time so you can start planning your stay in St. Remy. We are already longing to return.
