Samois-sur-Seine is one of the most beautiful and oldest villages in the Ile-de-France region, nestling in the greenery between the Seine and the Fontainebleau national forest. A village of character, 60 km from Paris and 6 km from Fontainebleau, with just under 2,200 inhabitants today. Samois-sur-Seine captivates visitors with the charm of its narrow streets, its many lanes, its Seine-side landscapes and its lively local life. With its many shops and restaurants, the village is alive with festive, musical, sporting and cultural events throughout the year. Always a favourite with artists - painters, writers, sculptors, photographers and musicians - Samois-sur-Seine is also the cradle of gypsy jazz. It was here that guitarist Django Reinhardt spent his last years.
