Summary: This beautiful, Grade II-listed Regency home is a hidden gem, only a short walk from the city centre. The white exterior and large sash windows exude grandeur, and the pretty gardens offer a peaceful oasis. The house offers views to the moors and Cathedral. Its impressiveness continues inside, with high ceilings, original fireplaces and tasteful antiques. Whilst contemporary updates, such as the modern kitchen, ensure maximum comfort. Free parking is available on-site.
The Space: Set in a lovingly resorted Regency townhouse, this spacious home for eight makes the most of its original features. Find large wooden sash windows, exposed floorboards, lofty ceilings, marble fireplaces and stained glass windows. The light and bright conservatory is the perfect spot for a slow morning reading your book or for afternoon tea when you’re back from exploring. There are two living rooms to choose from both with gas burners and deep sofas. One is small and cosy and the other considerably larger with a Smart TV for movie nights.
The luxurious, contemporary kitchen is ideal for rustling up delicious holiday meals. Then when it’s time to tuck in, serve up in the impressive dining room with views of the garden. For remote workers, the home also boasts a separate study with a monitor and garden aspect.
Upstairs, find four beautiful bedrooms, each with its own unique style. Wake up in your comfortable bed in the green bedroom, with a basin. It has leafy views directly from the two sash windows. This room has a zip-and-link bed, which can be configured as two singles or a super-king. It also has two single pull-out beds which can be made up on request. Three more bedrooms are available, each with a king-size bed, one of which also has a basin. They all share a well-maintained family bathroom with bath, shower and lavatory. In addition there is a separate lavatory along the landing
On warm days, make the most of your private garden with a bistro dining set on the patio for alfresco meals. You'll also find private parking for 1 vehicle in the garage and 1-2 vehicles on the driveway.
Guest Access: Guests have access to the whole house and garden. Note: the attic and cellars are closed private areas.
The Neighborhood: The house is tucked away in a friendly neighbourhood in central Exeter. Your local high street feels more like a village, with offbeat cafés, delis and shops. However, you’re still only a 10 minute walk from the city centre.
Exeter is a small, yet bustling city which is famed for its 14th Century Cathedral Cathedral, which boasts the longest stretch of unbroken Gothic vaulting in the world! There are many other charming historic buildings. Cafes spill out onto The Green, where you can enjoy delicious alfresco lunches during spring and summer. Meanwhile, in winter, the Cathedral Close twinkles with the lights of Christmas market stalls. The nearby high street is filled with shops and restaurants - a mixture of chains and independents - so you can shop to your heart's content.
As well as the high street, the cobbled Gandy back street has shops and restaurants to discover. From the quirky Glorious Art House cafe via the charming charming Hour Glass pub and down to the Quay area - there is plenty for varying tastes.
One of the brilliant things about Exeter is its proximity and access to the countryside including Dartmoor, and the Jurassic Coast. Within 15-20 minutes you could be wandering through the quaint streets of Topsham - a fishing village where you’ll find some fantastic antique shops and restaurants, including the Passage House Inn, The Galley and The Salutation Hotel. Or, browsing the fresh meat and delicatessen supplies or tucking into fresh fish and chips at the famous Dart’s Farm shop and restaurant centre. There are nature trails and cycle paths in this estuary area as well. Enjoy days spent on the beach at Exmouth, Sidmouth or Budleigh Salterton - and make sure to stop off at Lympstone where there is a beautiful manor house hotel run by the chef Michael Caines.

Other Things to Note: The lane to the parking on the driveway is very narrow so it may help to fold the mirrors in on some larger vehicles. It is too narrow for a Ford Transit van or Large SUV.
The property is not suitable for babies or children for safety reasons. There are steep steps leading to an off limits area. There is also a steep drop in the front garden, which could be a risk for crawling children/babies.

Communication with the host was excellent throughout. The accommodation was stunning, especially for a Grade 2 listed building, and felt very luxurious while still being fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. The location was perfect, and I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. Would definitely stay again. Be aware though, parking (which is fab to have) is exceptionally tight and a little scary to navigate.

Hi Carol, Thanks for your lovely review, we’re so pleased you enjoyed the character and comfort of the Grade II listed building and found it well equipped and perfectly located. It’s lovely to hear you’d happily stay again. Parking is indeed a little snug, as is often the case with historic properties, but we’re glad you appreciated having a dedicated space. We’d love to welcome you back.

Fabulous, characterful building. Our stay was excellent. But, getting the keys was a complicated process that needs to be highlighted and emphasised and reinforced at every step. It was quite stressful turning up and getting in.
