Wisteria Cottage, Topsham

Wisteria Cottage is a charming period cottage located in the heart of picturesque Topsham, 4 miles from Exeter.

The house sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms and forms an ideal base to enjoy the town’s shops, cafes and restaurants, which are within a short walk, and to explore South Devon.

Set in an idyllic spot on the River Exe, Topsham is an historic town that was once an important port. It retains a quaint maritime feel with Dutch-style merchants' houses, Georgian buildings, boatyards and a busy quayside.

Today, Topsham has an upmarket, cosmopolitan flavour with a mix of stylish boutiques, antique shops, galleries and award-winning food shops and restaurants. Visitors can enjoy memorable sunsets over the estuary, walks in the nature reserve and summer boat trips.

Exeter and the long sandy beaches at Exmouth are 10 mins drive.

The accommodation is arranged over two floors. On the ground floor there’s a cosy sitting room with comfortable seating, a flat-screen Smart TV with Freeview, Netflix and Amazon Prime and a DVD player. The sitting room leads to a spacious, well-equipped eat-in kitchen with all mod cons - including gas cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. The dining table seats 4, extendable to 8. French windows open onto a walled sunny courtyard garden offering total privacy.

Upstairs there's a master bedroom with king-size bed with TV, a twin bedroom, and a spacious family bathroom with bath and separate shower.

Due to the central location of the cottage there is a private parking space 250m (around 4 mins walk) from the property for the guests’ exclusive use. Please also be aware that a level of road noise may be experienced.

Claire came to meet us and show around, how things worked, especially the gas fire( I would never have found the lever to switch it on).The cottage is really excellent, beautifully presented as a home not a bare soulless place with cheap cotton covered furniture. High quality kitchen, excellent cutlery, glassware.excellent bedding etc etc etc.

Great location close to Sandy Park in Exeter. Easy train ride into Exeter. The cottage was clean and we had plenty of linens. Cozy space with everything we needed.

Absolutely wonderful property and stay. Very clean and well equipped. Comfortable, peaceful and restful. There wasn't one thing we needed that wasn't in the house. Great owner and clear and prompt communication. Great location to explore the area.

Wisteria cottage is located in a lovely little town, with a good choice of restaurants and bars. The cottage is clean and has everything you could need and more.The check in was great , we were sent the code for the key box and on arrival there were two folders with information and instructions about the cottage and the appliances in there. We would definitely recommend a stay to friends and family, and we would will visit again .

The property was clean and spacious. The kitchen was very well equipped.Our main problem was finding the designated parking space as the instructions were not accurate. If it had said, "next to Nursery school" we would have found the space more quickly.Also, I had asked the hosts about whether it was a quiet area. They didn't mention that it was opposite a pub with a popular beer garden or that the buses stopped outside the property.

Lovely Cottage

Beautiful cottage, very homely and spotlessly clean. We had an issue with the bathroom door getting stuck shut and i contacted Claire the housekeeper who came out immediately. Loved sitting in the peaceful garden and the cottage is so near to the shops and harbour. Fab to have a parking space too. Will come again!

Nice place, very well equipped kitchen. Excellent communicative host Just bear in mind it's quite a busy road so there will be traffic noise, and more so if you need window open at night in front bedroom.

Lovely little cottage

Lovely cottage just a few minutes walk from the beautiful estuary. The whole place was spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable with lovely bed linen. It has a nice little courtyard at the back and a parking spot five minutes walk up the road, which is a real bonus! We really enjoyed our stay in Wisteria Cottage and would definitely stay there again.

Wisteria Cottage Topsham

We had a very good week at Wisteria Cottage. There were two things to mention, one being that the bottom drawer of the oven fell off when we opened it and was difficult to put back properly. The other minor detail was that the screw became loose on the bathroom towel ring and could not be adjusted. Otherwise, everything else was of a high standard.

Convenient property close to Exeter

The house is generally functional but to us it felt a little 'tired' inside. Other visitors may not take the same view of course.The bathroom has a full size bath where a walk-in shower would be much more convenient. The shower cubicle is tiny for anyone of average size. The kitchen is the best room, with all utensils, gadgets and appliances that would be required for a short term stay. The garden is nice with practical garden furniture. One drawback is that a neighboring property feeds flocks of starlings constantly throughout the day, every day, so it can be a little unpleasant to use the garden. This isn't the property owners fault and other visitors may have a different attitude to encouraging these type of birds.The 2 bedrooms upstairs, with the bathroom in between, are quite okay with decent storage. We used the back room with twin beds because the front of the house can be noisy with the Lord Nelson pub directly opposite. (again this is outside the property owner's control). The twin beds are a little on the small size for larger adults and quite low to the ground.It is a centre terrace property but the party walls appear solid and we weren't disturbed in any way by the neighbours (apart from the startlings!). The property is very convenient for the bus to Exmouth/Exeter, and likewise the train station is only a short walk away. A number of pubs doing the usual pub food and a nice restaurant, The Galley, nearby.

Delightful place to stay

Wisteria cottage was a very comfortable and cosy place to stay. Everywhere was clean and in good condition.The bed was very comfortable with high quality linen. The location was within 2 minutes walk of the village centre and extremely quiet even though it was on the main road. The parking was an absolute bonus.We would very happily stay here again.

Wisteria Cottage

As always we had another lovely holiday in this brilliant property. It’s a real home from home. Has everything you need and is very comfy & cosy. The TV was a slight problem, but did not spoil our holiday at all. We are assured by Alex the TV will be replaced, so thank you for that. Our next trip is already booked for December so we can definitely recommend this cottage and Topsham is a lovely place to stay. There is a dedicated parking space at the railway station a short walk away and the bus stop (57) is almost at the front door, which takes you either to Exmouth or into Exeter in the opposite direction. There are plenty of places to eat, our favourite this trip was Denley’s the Essence of India, a short walk away from the cottage. Looking forward to our December trip.
