THE DANISH RIVIERA
Nestled between the sea and the fjord in Denmark’s oldest eco-village, Torup, completely free from traffic noise, lies Granithuset Valhalla. The rental property, with a private entrance and two terraces, is a fully insulated year-round home built from 90% recycled materials and granite blocks. The walls are whitewashed and the ceilings are high, with beams made from 100-year-old Pomeranian pine. The floors on the ground floor, comprising the entrance hall, bathroom and kitchen-diner, have underfloor heating. Naturally, there is a wood-burning stove, and the rooms are furnished with stylish antique recycled furniture. You feel as though you have been transported to a southern European mountain chalet.
The adjoining orangery to the south extends the summer months by several weeks, and here in the orangery there is a vegetable kitchen with hot and cold running water and a double-glazed window, so that the cook inside Kitchen 1 can order the fresh, cleaned vegetables you have just prepared. In other words, a dual kitchen with plenty of space.
Both patio doors are double doors that can be opened wide, extending the living room to 11 m. If you have many guests, a long table for 22 people can be set up. Naturally, a full kitchen service is available for large parties.
The staircase, with its mahogany banister and steps in marble, granite and oak, leads up to the first floor, which has two double bedrooms. The south-facing bedroom, which features a loft, has two single beds that are joined together but can be separated as required and moved around on their castors with brakes. The south-facing room also features a loft where one adult or two children can sleep.
The north-facing room is also equipped with a split double bed on castors with brakes, storage space for suitcases, two café chairs, three windows facing north, east and west, and a balcony with views of the morning sun and sunset. Smoking is, of course, permitted out on the balcony and on the terraces.
Bed linen and towels are included in the price.
The bedding consists of duvets with cotton covers.
If you wish to have the double beds separated into single beds, please let us know as soon as possible. Please contact the host, Ole. Ole can be contacted via text message or phone call for important enquiries. An extra floor mattress can be provided in each room for a fee. The phone number will be provided by the rental company upon request after a confirmed booking.
The fridge always contains a complimentary bottle of rosé, 2 litres of sparkling water, a few beers and soft drinks.
The kitchen is fully equipped with coffee, tea, salt, pepper and a selection of spices, in limited quantities. The kitchen knives are sharp!
