THE DANISH RIVIERA
Midway between SEA & FJORD in Denmark’s oldest ECO-town Torup, completely free of traffic noise, lies the Granite House Valhalla. The rental building with private entrance and 2 terraces is a fully insulated year-round home made from 90% reclaimed materials and granite slabs. Only the roof rafters are 20 cm Douglas fir purchased new. The house’s walls are limewashed and there are high ceilings with beams of 100-year-old Pomeranian pine. The ground-floor floors with entrance, bathroom and kitchen-living area have underfloor heating. Naturally there is a wood stove and the rooms are furnished with stylish antique recycled furniture. You feel transported to a southern European mountain cabin.
The adjoining orangery to the south extends the summer season by three months and
Here in the orangery there is a vegetable kitchen with cold/hot water at the taps and a double window, so the cook inside Kitchen-1 can order the freshly cleaned vegetables you have just prepared. In other words, a double kitchen without lack of space.
Both terrace doors are double and can be opened wide, extending the living room to 11 m. If many guests arrive, a long table is set up for 22 people and there is, of course, full kitchen service available.
The staircase with mahogany handrail and steps in marble, granite and oak leads up to the 1st floor with 2 double rooms. The south room with a loft has 2 single beds that are joined together but can be separated and moved around on wheels with brakes as needed. In this south room there is also a loft where 1 adult or 2 children can sleep.
The north room is also equipped with a dividable double bed on wheels with brakes, suitcase storage, 2 café chairs, 3 windows (north-east-west) and a balcony with views of the morning sun and the sunset. Smoking is, of course, permitted out here on the balcony and on the terraces.
One extra floor mattress can be provided in each room, or they can be placed in the Orangery during the summer months.
The bedding is down duvets with cotton covers, and if a thinner or thicker duvet is desired, please contact the host Ole Beck. Ole can be reached by SMS or phone call for important inquiries.
If you arrive late, groceries and drinks can be ordered and placed in the refrigerator or freezer. The purchase with receipt must be paid in cash, with an additional charge of between 100 and 300 DKK.
In the refrigerator there is always a complimentary bottle of rosé, 2 L of sparkling water, a couple of beers and soft drinks.
The kitchen is fully equipped with coffee, tea, salt, pepper and a selection of spices, in limited quantities, and the knives are sharp.
THE DANISH RIVIERA AROUND
On arrival there is a GUESTBOOK for praise and criticism, as well as the tourist magazine >MY NORTH ZEALAND:

Grape Harvest in October
As a renter for just over a week in October, you, your family, and any friends you wish to invite can participate in the grape harvest. This includes picking, destemming, and vinifying the grapes. Afterward, the grape must will be placed in barrels with yeast. 1-2 days later, we will press the grapes, which will then undergo vigorous fermentation in your Orangery for the next week. There, you can enjoy the delightful aroma of grapes and hear the cheerful bubbling from the fermentation locks.
Throughout the entire process, which lasts about a week, we will regularly taste the must and observe how the sweet grapes are transformed into Danish Orange Wine with approximately 12% alcohol.
A grape harvest is synonymous with a Harvest Festival, so naturally, we will arrange both lunches and tastings of bottles from previous years, which we retrieve from Valhalla's wine cellar. A place that can be quite difficult to leave!
If there are barrels of wine from previous years stored in the cellar, we will have another day of winemaking experiences. The bottles need to be washed, filled, corked, capped, and labeled.
However, winemaking is far from simple, as throughout the year, the grapevines, which grow unchecked like vines, must be pruned repeatedly. Year-round, there are at least 5 hours of work per week for the 300 bottles Valhalla has. The week of harvest you participate in is therefore just a pleasant part of the entire process, which you will certainly also enjoy here in Torup's fresh country air.
VinBorgen Valhalla has 4 rows of grapevines down on Økobyen's field, a single row behind the ECO-barn, while my oldest vines are located around Valhalla itself, right where you enjoy your holiday in Økobyen Dyssekilde.
Please note that a grape harvest cannot be scheduled for a specific week, as sun and wind determine when the grapes are ripe for picking. Therefore, we must be in dialogue about the harvest if you book this private Grape Harvest package.
