Welcome to Casa Nanita, a cosy mountain hideaway in the beautiful Chirripó region of Costa Rica.

Set on a gated riverside property overlooking 140 metres of the Chirripó River, the cottage offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, lush tropical forest and San Isidro Valley.

Whether you're here to explore the mountains, work remotely or simply enjoy a few peaceful days surrounded by nature, Casa Nanita offers a comfortable place to feel at home.

Inside the cottage

The cottage accommodates up to four guests and features:

A king-size bed in an airy, open loft bedroom upstairs
A cosy downstairs queen bedroom with its own bathroom
A second bathroom located downstairs in the shared living area
A fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, oven, refrigerator and several coffee-making options
Fast 200 Mbps Wi-Fi and a dedicated workspace
Solar-heated hot water and comfortable spaces to relax

Please note that the upstairs loft is open to the main living space and its bathroom is downstairs.

Gardens, river and relaxation

Step outside and discover what makes this property special.

Wander through lush shared gardens with fruit trees, herbs and vegetables, enjoy the sounds of the river or find a quiet corner to admire the mountain scenery.

Guests have access to the shared freshwater plunge pool, available year-round, and can reserve sessions in our bio-sauna for an additional fee.

Massages and yoga sessions can also be arranged on request.

Yoga mats, a foam roller and a mountain bike are available for guests to use.

The Chirripó River runs along the property, with access to beautiful rocks, river views and natural areas to explore when conditions are safe. The river is powerful, especially during the rainy season, and swimming in the main river is not permitted during that time.

Discover the Chirripó region

One of Casa Nanita's greatest advantages is its location: immersed in nature, yet within easy walking distance of the charming mountain village of Canaán.

Take a five-minute stroll to discover local restaurants, a bakery, artisanal cheeses, a small grocery store, a butterfly dome and a gelateria.

A short drive takes you to San Gerardo de Rivas, the Cloudbridge Nature Reserve, hiking trails, waterfalls, trout farms and the entrance to Chirripó National Park.

You'll also find local farmers' markets, organic produce, excellent coffee and plenty of opportunities to discover an authentic side of Costa Rica.

For longer excursions, explore Nauyaca Waterfalls or head down to the Pacific coast and Dominical.

Guest Access:

Guests enjoy private use of the entire cottage, with their own entrance and covered parking.

The gardens, riverfront areas and freshwater plunge pool are shared with the main property.

You're welcome to enjoy the garden and pick fresh herbs, vegetables and seasonal fruit when available.

Our bio-sauna can be reserved in advance for an additional charge.

Mountain climate

Casa Nanita sits at approximately 1,200 metres (4,000 feet) above sea level. Expect pleasantly warm mornings, cooler evenings and occasional afternoon mist or rain. We recommend bringing a sweater and comfortable clothing for cooler weather.

River sounds and wildlife

The Chirripó River creates a constant natural rushing-water sound, which is part of the property's atmosphere. As we are surrounded by tropical nature, occasional insects and wildlife are to be expected.

Our four-legged residents

Our friendly dogs and cats live on the property and may occasionally stop by to say hello. If you enjoy animals, you'll probably love meeting them. Guests with allergies or those who prefer no animal contact should take this into consideration.

Please don't feed the animals, and kindly send them home before dark.

Accessibility and young children

The cottage has an open loft, stairs and open bannisters. The terrain can be uneven or slippery during rainy weather, and the swimming pool is unfenced. The property may therefore be unsuitable for toddlers, young children or guests with limited mobility.

Getting here

The road is paved all the way to Casa Nanita, and a 4x4 is not necessary. However, we recommend a midsize SUV for exploring the mountainous region.

Please follow the main paved roads via San Isidro and Route 242 rather than navigation shortcuts onto unpaved roads.

Allow approximately three hours of driving from San José in good conditions and considerably more time when arriving from the airport, especially with traffic, fog or rain. Daylight driving is recommended.
