The location and property is amazing. The sand beach is steps away and the owner has kayaks, floaties, sand toys etc. Sunsets are beautiful and it's a quiet area. George, the owner, lives next door and is very welcoming and informative. We had a great time at each of the locations and venues he recommended.
The cottage itself is cozy and large enough for a family of four. It does however need some updating and looks to be in original condition. It's a 2 bedroom one bath with the 2nd bedroom being a converted porch and we had no issues sleeping.
The kitchen is dated and sparse, but technically has all that you need in a kitchen. The utensils and kitchen items showed their age and the drawers and cabinets were a bit dirty inside. The years of wear shows as the stove is old and stained and the linoleum floor is stained and needs replacing.
The bathroom by far, is the greatest disappointment. The shower stall is very dirty, black mold shows on the poorly done caulking, rust stains are everywhere, the shower caddy is rusted, the toilet runs and without a house water filter and water softener the tap/well water smells and tastes of iron. Toilet has rust stains due to the iron and constant running. Definitely bring a lot of bottled water for drinking, cooking and maybe as a final rinse of your hair if you don't like the rust smell.
I would not hesitate to rent this place for a few weeks a year because of it's wonderful location having the beach at the back, close to wineries and Sturgeon Bay and friendly owner, but only if the above issues are addressed.
-For what it's worth, thank you.
