Wife, me and two friends wanted a quiet get-away where we could stage ourselves for exploration of the Southern Delmarva and Salisbury area. We could not have made a better choice than this charming two-bedroom, all-included refuge from the busy city work-a-day world.
From the outside, very little hints at what awaits. Your initial view is of a garage (a nice garage, but still a garage) with windows and window-boxes of flowers up above the car storage area. Then you walk around behind and see there is a nice deck overlooking unspoiled marshland that once dominated all of coastal Delmarva.
Up the stairs you enter the apartment through sliding glass doors that give 24/7 views of nature. The living area is furnished in stylish rattan seemingly plucked from the most elegant of sun-rooms. A mid-sized TV sits ready for anyone bored of looking down at the river and marshland below (we did not; the TV stayed off our whole visit). Beyond the living room area is the full kitchen (stove refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, sink, counter space and cabinets, etc.). And Beyond that is a four-set dining table at the window looking west out over the main house and another view of the marsh as the Manokin river wends it way unconcernedly to the Bay (sunsets are magnificent through this window). Colorful curtains conceal a full washer/dryer if you stay long enough to need laundry.
Bedrooms branch off from this main living area--one to the south and one to the north. The south bedroom is decorated in "Napa Valley" fashion, informed by the owners' love of America's premier wine district. The other decorated "India" style, with art and artifacts from travel in that region. All is tastefully done; pleasant, attractive and relaxing.
One well-appointed full bathroom serves the apartment. Unless you travel with strangers who can't bear someone having shared the shower or sink, this is more than sufficient for a group of two or four.
Weather permitting, the deck may be where you will spend most of your stay. From the outdoor furniture here you see nothing before you but unspoiled nature--craggy trees lining the lazy river; marshland that fills and empties of water as the tides from the nearby Bay ebb and flow. Birds abound, especially the Eagles who like to perch atop the bleached limbs of long-dead long-leaf pines and surveil their domain.
From this base, all of Southern Delmarva and its charming towns and beaches are within an easy reach.
