Thank you for your feedback. I work hard to keep the apartment clean and neat and I'm glad you noticed and appreciated this. I apologize for the dogs. We had this conversation on the phone and it seemed like you were satisfied with a 50% refund for the noise disturbance. I had to travel that day and the dogs stayed outside much later until I returned home, so this was definitely out of the norm. You indicated on the phone that there was no noise the second day. As for the kayaks and bicycles, I am at a loss. There are three kayaks on the property, one of which is clearly visible from the door of the apartment and another one stays at the side of the dock, ready to go. I wish you had reached out to me and asked. The bicycles have both worked fine for me and other guests since your stay..? But I will certainly take a look and see if there is an issue with either of them. I'm sorry for your experience, it is clearly an exception to the rule, but I do take it seriously and will try to improve the things you took issue with. I'd love for you to return (at a discounted rate) so I can make it up to you. Thanks! Kevin

The problem with the review process here is that guests can write anything they want, regardless of how truthful or accurate it is. I contacted VRBO to pose this issue to them after having them read this review and then access my account to see how untruthful it is. This guest was refunded $386 (half of my payout and 100% of her damage deposit). VRBO says there is no record of this guest calling in to cancel the reservation and she did not contact me until two days after she checked in to voice her concerns. At that time I offered her a 50% refund as it was already halfway through her stay. As for the presentation of my property, I have had plenty of wonderful guests leave positive reviews. I also have a 45 pound, two year old dog, who stays on the upper deck of my home while I am not there. My rental space is on the ground floor, so it is clearly untrue that my dog is anywhere close to a guest at any time. There are so many factual inaccuracies in this review, which is why I contacted VRBO to challenge it. After accessing my account and searching their phone records, they agreed that this guest posted comments that are not true; however their policy is to allow an owner response and not mediate or censor reviews, so I am left writing this response as a rebuttal to false and inaccurate information. I wish we could have resolved this in a constructive manner, and I’m sorry to have an unsatisfied guest. I usually go out of my way to accommodate people. Unfortunately some people try to take advantage of that and then turn vindictive when they don’t get what they want. I’m sorry, but I don’t think it is reasonable to expect a full refund halfway through your stay. If you have a problem, let me know up front and I will always do my best to resolve the issue as quickly and as fairly as possible.

I had a feeling this was going to happen after you cut your communication with me short. As I’m sure you are aware, we recently had a major cat 5 hurricane come through. So yes there have been some repairs from that, most of which have been completed or are near completion. Let’s state the facts, shall we? 1) I am usually always home. I went to the Keys for my brother’s wedding the weekend you came. I’m not sure why you would say I’m “never” home, as you don’t know me and have never stayed with me before. 2) Everything was fine and communication was great between us until you informed me (as you were checking into the property) that you brought a boat. I wish you had told me that before you arrived. I would have told you that the dock and boat ramp were not completely repaired from the storm (both of which are now useable). 3) All you had to do to use a golf cart was ask me to rent it, but you never sent another message to me. My neighbor told me when I returned from my trip that you had complained to him that you wanted a free golf cart because you couldn’t use the boat ramp, but I never heard from you again. I provided every chance for you to communicate with me, and because I was gone, left you a detailed message including all the instructions to operate everything in my absence and even restaurant and site seeing recommendations. I’m sorry you did not enjoy your stay. I’m glad you at least acknowledged the apartment is nice “on the inside.” I strive to provide a satisfying vacation experience for my guests. I will admit it took an exhausting amount of work to recover from Hurricane Michael and there are some aesthetic details still to be completed, but none of that has seemed to bother any of my other guests. The boat ramp and dock are now useable for guests. Thank you for your review. I’d be happy to offer you a significant discount if you’d like to try it again in the future.
