Sapelo is a truly special place on earth, and this cabin does the experience full justice. To be sure, it is a masculine, hunting cabin turned vacation rental, but that is part of the charm. Because very few people access Sapelo outside of those who live there, those who work there, and those who hunt there. So the hunting emphasis is true to the few uses of the island.
The rustic decor is thoughtful, tasteful, charming, and relevant the its environment tucked into the pine trees and saw palmettos that abound on the relatively-untouched island. Yes, there were a few dead roaches—so those squeamish about bugs ought to venture elsewhere—but the cabin was marvelously constructed, well cared for, spotless, comfortable, and blissfully air conditioned. It is kid friendly to some degree—probably not great for 18 months—2 1/2 year olds—but we went with our 4 year old and 6 month old and it was perfection.
Furthermore, the property owner, JT, was so dang nice, he routinely checked in on us and helped us find whatever we needed. He put us in touch with Maurice for renting a vehicle and with Barbara who prepared and delivered dinners to us each night. The only thing that we needed while on the island that we couldn't get a hold of was a working pen LOL. Bring your own pens.
