Both our parents thought we were crazy to buy this property in 1998. We thought they were crazy to think we were crazy. With 1/3 of an acre and an ocean view we knew we had potential in our hands. It took a few years and some convincing to build an 'upside down' house with the living area upstairs and bedrooms downstairs People thought I was crazy then too! Most would agree now it would be crazy to have done it the 'normal' way.
The home was built to withstand kids and visiting family. It has held up well. Unless you count the dogs. Kirby lliked to chew things, sofas, doors, even drywall. We had our very own Marley. He made it to 13 and has moved on now, yet the house still stands.
One other note: the home has a mid-level entry. With entertaining and living upstairs this made sense to me. Three architects said I was crazy. I didn't want my guests to walk down stairs from the street only to turn around and walk up stairs to the 2nd floor. I hope you will agree that fewer stairs is better. I think you will agree, crazy would have been to listen to those 3 architects.
