We book rentals with VRBO often and our experience was BY FAR the worst experience we've ever had.
After a long day traveling to Maui, we arrived a little early, so contacted the property owner, hoping we might be able to get in an hour or so prior to the 4p check in time. That wasn’t possible, as the cleaners needed all of that time to clean and prepare the rental for the next users (us.) Understandable.
We finally get into our rental and the first place I went was the master bathroom. The toilet had diarrhea splattered all over it & there was no shower curtain.
Getting settled in, we opened the curtains to the lanai, only to find a sign telling us that it was closed and was taped off. One of the main reasons we chose this rental was for the ocean view from the lanai for our mother who has issues getting around. This was suppose to be a dream come true for her.
They also neglected to tell us that there was major renovations occurring at the facility. Heavy equipment, lots of loud drilling and banging going on … ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. And I do have pics and video to back up all of my claims.
There were cockroaches, yes alive, in the kitchen. The last one I saw was in the silverware drawer.
The ultimate kicker ….. when I contacted the owner to address the issues, they sent me a $300 refund for the inconvenience. THAT IS INSULTING, at best.
This was disappointing. I’ve stayed at Honua Kai 2 previous times and will go back there from now on.
