This place was amazing! The services that the host provided were great. The included breakfast was delicious and a great way to start our day. Patrick was so helpful with our excursions. This is by far the best VRBO that I've ever stayed at. We hope to return again sometime.

Our stay was exceptional! Patrick was extremely helpful in coordinating some of our Arenal adventures including a gormet dinner at the nearby Gingerbread House. The view from our villa was magical. We really appreciated the homemade breakfasts every morning. We will never forget our stay there.

Matching every prior review and exceeding all expectations, The Red Sunset at Guanacaste made for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation for our family.From Patrick's first-class hosting (including arranging private night jungle walks and horseback riding through meadows and streams) to a five-star gourmet breakfast cooked just for us while we awoke overlooking Lake Arenal, we felt as if we had been given keys to our own castle for the week.Every detail of the experience has been carefully curated by the host, and he was proactive in anything that we possibly could have wondered or needed. My only regret is that we could not stay longer!

Had an amazing time at Patrick's place. We travelled over the Christmas holidays - there were two families travelling together. The house had lots of space for us and a beautiful view. Having breakfast made every day was a great way to start the day and Patrick was beyond amazing in helping us arrange our days/transportation and anything we needed. The only item that I would highlight is that to get to adventures - it is a lot of travelling. Typically at least an hour each way to get to all the amazing adventures that La Fortuna and other surrounding areas bring.

Great Location, welcoming host. Patrick had lots of ideas for places to visit. Baldi Hot Springs is the best in La Fortuna. Lots of room and a very eclectic collection of books and lots of interesting items. The weather was rainy and cloudy so we could not see Arenal, but the most spectacular rainbows. Breakfast every morning was delicious. Bill, the outdoor cat was very friendly and kept us safe..... :) Spectacular views of the lake when the sun peeked through. There is a magical lake up the road from the house. Overall, a great stay. Only thing that is going to cost me money when I get home, is a new mattress. They are firm, and for the first time ever, my back and hip didn't hurt at night!

This was a phenomenal vacation, thanks to Patrick--and his wonderful family. Patrick was so kind and generous with his time. He sincerely wanted us to have the best trip--and we did. The house is like a castle--with an unbelievable view of the volcano--the breakfasts were delicious buffets with so many options. Patrick gave us ideas of what to do and booked the excursions for us, making everything so easy. We'd go back to Red Sunset of Guanacaste in a second and will recommend to anyone planning a vacation in Arenal.

Patrick was an incredible host. He met us upon arrival and set us up with a driver and excursions each day. All his recommendations for restaurants were superb. His wife would come each morning and prepare us a breakfast fit for Kings and Queens.The house is amazing! It’s spacious, clean, fully equipped, and beautifully decorated!! And the views of the lake and volcano are to die for!!!The pool house is equipped with a small gym that our kids used each day and a hot tub that helped to soothe our bodies after our adventurous days. The kids were brave and swam in the chilly pool…brrrr!!We loved everything about our stay at the Red Sunset at Guanacaste

Our stay here was truly amazing!! Patrick is a great host and very helpful booking tours and the breakfast everyday was so good never the same! And the sweet dogs that came to visit us were amazing (Jackson Emma and Dozer) we fell in love with them and Cora Rica I would definitely recommend this property!

Staying in this VRBO was by far the best place we’ve ever stayed at!! The home itself overlooks Lake Arenal, and is surrounded by a tropical rain forest. Each morning two amazing toucans would be in the tree right beside the balcony. We watched them eat, and we were able to get beautiful pictures of them. Many other birds and critters also were sighted from the balcony. The house itself is a work of art built over 25 years by the owner himself. Each morning we feasted on a fabulous full breakfast (included in the price), made by Mar and another young woman. They made us fruit smoothies, scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes, fresh fruits- really- a scrumptious feast! They also cleaned the house each day. Patrick was so helpful in helping us choose and reserve the activities we did each day. (Plus he would make sure the hot tub was heated by the time we returned.) It was a pleasure to talk with him and learn about the area. Each evening we all enjoyed the common living area where we read, some watched football, worked on a puzzle, etc. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay for a longer time! We hope to return someday.

Our family of 10 had a truly wonderful stay at this beautiful property. The home offered generous space, allowing each of us to enjoy our own private areas while still coming together easily as a group. The spacious deck quickly became our favorite spot, where we loved relaxing and watching an impressive variety of birds—especially the vibrant toucans that visited nearly every day.We spent plenty of time enjoying the pool area, soaking in the hot tub, and playing games at the pool and ping pong tables, all of which added so much fun and relaxation to our trip.The breakfasts were a daily highlight featuring the freshest tropical fruits, delicious smoothies, and creative new dishes every morning. The team handled our mixed group’s preferences with ease, perfectly accommodating both vegans and non vegans.Patrick was an absolute standout—exceptionally helpful and professional, acting like our personal concierge. He thoughtfully arranged all our activities, booked reliable and courteous drivers for our excursions and airport transfers, and made sure everything ran smoothly and flexibly to suit our needs. We had a wonderful time at The Red Sunset of Guanacaste! The house is amazing, the views are spectacular and the host, Patrick, was so so helpful! And we can’t say enough about the wonderful delicious healthy breakfasts that Lisa and Mar made every day. Each day Patrick helped with our plans , sometimes arranging in advance. He also had terrific recommendations for dinner, we all loved the evening at Gingerbread Restaurant, a superb dining experience.Can not say enough good things , thank you Patrick!

Amazing Property for both small families and large groups!

This property is amazing! It is steeped in Costa Rican charm including hand-painted tiles and murals and hand-carved doors. Amazing views of the lake and the volcano. Patrick was very helpful recommending activities and helping getting them set up. The house is large, but it's set up in a way that our 4-person family still felt cozy. It also has a relatively accessible bedroom on the first floor that makes it perfect for those with older family members.

Scenic and fun stay near Lake Arenal

The house is in a beautiful location. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub and breakfast was really nice. Patrick recommended some great activities that were perfect for our family and helped set up all the bookings. I would highly recommend staying here!

First visit to Costa Rica

Our stay at Patrick’s place was amazing! He communicated prior to our visit as we planned out activities. Greeted us with a property tour when we arrived and offered suggestions of activities for our group of 10. He booked the activities and sent us directions…made planning easy for our group. There was plenty of room for our group to spread out and enjoy the property. The property is beautiful and the daily breakfast was a favorite!!! We had the best time visiting the Arenal and La Fortuna area and hope to return to Patrick’s place!

Amazing!!!

My family and I had the BEST time!!! Patrick was awesome. He helped with arranging any tours we wanted, pointed us on where to eat, and where to go if we needed anything. The house was unbelievable. Plenty of space for the seven of us, gorgeous views...everthing we could ask for. And the daily breakfasts were sooooo good. I can't say enough good things about Patrick and the Red Sunset. It is truly the best!!!

A one bedroom , one bath home that we rebuilt from the ground up, a complete renovation, ending with 6 bedrooms and 6 en suite bathrooms, 26 acres of rain forest, high atop a hill, near the town of Nuevo Arenal, Costa Rica. An absolutely breathtaking view overlooking nearly the entire Lake Arenal valley and on clear days a perfect view of frequently erupting Volcano Arenal, all within minutes of some of the worlds premier adventure activities and natural treasures, was more than enough to convince the Hughes family to risk a move to the beautiful and nearly undiscovered gem of Lake Arenal, Costa Rica. So we took the risk and bought the property, then the work began. A complete renovation turning it into labor of love where we wanted to be and knew others would love as well!

'The Sunset' Luxury Guesthouse has six beautifully appointed bedrooms, bathrooms en suite featuring Costa Rican art throughout. With a gourmet kitchen, large shared library/TV room, dining hall, wi-fi, and laundry . Guests enjoy a large, indoor, swimming pool with attached jacuzzi and gymnasium, with pool table and ping pong table.
A frequent question we receive is why we have a "indoor pool house" true it is unique to the area and the only enclosed pool house around. The reason is simple "people just do not go swimming in the rain". We want our guests to enjoy every aspect of their stay and no matter how gorgeous an outside pool is in sunny weather, we are realists that understand that when it rains you aren't going to go swimming outside. So with our unique indoor pool, guest groups can and do enjoy swimming, the jacuzzi, workout area, ping pong and billiards, till the wee hours if they like, under roof and protected from a sudden downpour, guests just love it and we are the only ones that offer it.
We strive to accommodate all dietary restrictions and put out world class meals for your group to enjoy.
We do everything we can to ease your transition in to paradise and are on hand, yet non obtrusive and no more than a phone call away to come over and help arrange the vacation that you REALLY want! We can set up all activities up for you, so you have one less thing to worry about and so much more time to enjoy!
