Perfect Location
La Bourgnette is a truly beautiful old farm house situated in a pristine spot. And for my purposes it is located perfectly. My 7th trip to the area and 11th to France, I come to the Lot and the Dordogne for hiking. And with at least three circuits straight out the front door La Bourgnette provides what I'm looking for. Indeed, the house is not far from the famed Chemin de St. Jacques de Compostelle, called the GR6 in this area. If you're a hiker I recommend ordering the following Cartes des Randonnées from IGN, the Institute Geographique National: 1936ET, 2036ET, 2037OT, 2136ET and the 1:75,000 scale Perigord Noir/Haut-Quercy chart. If your not a hiker the 1:75,000 scale chart may suffice. These should cover most of your adventures in the region including: Sarlat, Domme, Rocamadour, Castelnaud, Lacave, Meyronne, St. Leon sur Vezere, La Roque-Gageac, Beynac et Cazenac, Les Milandes, etc. There are great hikes to/from all of these places. Though for some you will have to drive to the start of your hike.
La Bourgnette is well maintained by your French host, Pierre. I had the honor of being his first American guest. And while Pierre does not speak English, with my limited French we got on quite well. And I could tell he made a great effort to translate as much of the household instructions into English as he could. The house was very clean. The pool, spa and yard are very well cared for. The upstairs bedrooms are well proportioned with room for 4. There is a downstairs futon for two more. The kitchen is simple but adequately equipped. There is TV with a half dozen English channels. Though I prefer French TV if I watch at all. The WIFI could have been better but Pierre tells me he is going to install a repeater.
The Dordogne River and a beach are within easy walking distance of the house, as is the town of Pinsac with its small market. This is truly an authentic location. You will be surrounded by fields and orchards. The drive from Toulouse was an easy one coming straight up the A20 to Souillac, less than 2 hours.
Pierre has amassed an incredible library of information on local sites, chateaus, bridges, towns and attractions. You can tell he has a great respect for the history of this area. And his excitement is contagious. Have fun!
