Our family flew up to Washington to celebrate a birthday, and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect place to stay! Once we arrived at the gated entrance, we drove onto the property and up the driveway to a beautiful, picturesque scene of the Puget Sound. Located on the Pickering Passage, with a view of Harstine Island across the way, the property itself is gorgeous. You can tell the landscaping was well thought out with all different kinds of species of plants and trees, as well as beautiful, natural stone paths and steps. The three structures – the captain’s cabin, the church, and the firehouse – are all unique and striking in their own way. Having the three separate places to stay was nice for us, being that there were three couples staying on the property. The captain’s cabin has a stunning view of the water. We loved waking up to that incredible view and sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs, taking it all in with our morning coffee. The church was very cool, as it looks like a chapel with the high pitch ceiling and cupula, and the exquisite stained-glass windows. It has a spacious bathroom with a sliding door and massive claw foot tub. Right outside the bathroom is a sauna which was an awesome bonus! The firehouse is the first property you see when entering the driveway, it was actually an old firehouse that was converted into a wonderful living space. The first thing we noticed was the big stone fireplace which made the room so cozy and warm. It has a full kitchen and bathroom as well (like the captain’s cabin). The back doors open to a private deck and garden with a fenced arbor. While each of the cabins are special in their own way – they all have incredibly high-quality linens, and everything else you can imagine for a comfortable stay, along with unbelievably beautiful art. All of the rooms are curated with so much thought and talent. The nature surrounding the property made our stay extra special, we were lucky enough to even see a pod of orcas swim by! There are kayaks provided down on the beach, so getting to go kayaking was one of our favorite parts of the trip. We loved grilling on the Weber grill and enjoying the firepit on the property – we barely had to leave since it had every amenity we could have wished for. The weekend flew by and we didn’t want to leave the tranquility and magic of this property. Ray has created such a special atmosphere at Abbondanza, and we can’t wait for our next trip here.
