Lovely place to stay

We found the Bungalow when looking for a place to stay in Fairbanks. The property was as described. Carol was very welcoming, greeting us upon our arrival. The cookies she made were delicious and just the perfect touch. Very comfortable place to stay for a couple. Close to Fairbanks but felt like the middle of the woods at the some time. Husband say# he would stay there again to get more cookies. :)

Exceeded expectations in all dimensions!

From booking to checkout, everything was seamless. Carol is a warm, attentive host who ensured we had all the necessary details about the property and local attractions as soon as we confirmed our reservation. She also checked in with us during our stay to ensure we were comfortable.The house is cozy, well-equipped, and easily accessible by road. It’s conveniently located near great restaurants and supermarkets, yet far enough from the city to enjoy Aurora views right from the property.We had a wonderful time staying with Carol and will definitely return!

Wonderful Fairbanks bungalow

We had a great stay at the bungalow. It is super comfortable with a full kitchen, separate bedroom and up to date bathroom. Carol was a wonderful host!

Fantastic hosts/location

My husband and I came to Fairbanks to see the Northern Lights. We chose this bungalow due to it’s location and positive reviews. The reviewers did NOT lie.It is located in Ester, outside of the city lights but very convenient to the airport, shopping and restaurants. The owners were exceptional hosts. We have stayed at 15 VRBO properties. This by far is the number 1 place we have ever stayed. The hosts suggested things to do in the area that was very helpful.The web cam showed us when to go outside. The northern lights go right over this property. We got amazing photos several nights in a row.

Beautiful Location

This place is woodsy and isolated, but yet close to everything. Very clean, and well stocked with everything you would need. We arrived by train from Denali. We went straight to the airport to pick up a rent a car. Short drive from airport to the suite. We had been in Alaska for almost a month. This was our last stay before flying home from Fairbanks. We were exhausted and slept a lot when we first arrived. Bed was very comfortable. Carol even left some homemade cookies hanging in a bag on the door handle. They were very good. I depend on reviews and read many before renting a place. I try to write a very fair and detailed review. We did have a hard time finding a place for two very large suitcases. We ended up putting them in the living room on the coffee table. The water system is a holding tank with a large capacity.They must replenish it. The water pump kicks on anytime water is used and is very loud! We have rented through many sites over the years. We have always been notified when cameras are on the property. We don't have a problem with it, but we were surprised to see several. I understand they need to monitor their property. We even have cameras on our home. There is one camera at the front door looking right at you. It made me feel uncomfortable because it was so close. The camera looks like it's set up to see you come/go at front door and getting in/out of car. With all of that being said, it's still an absolutely beautiful place!

Wonderful!

The unit was clean, spacious, modern, comfortable and well supplied with amenities. We had a really amazing stay. Carol and Les were perfect hosts, very kind and accommodating. They welcomed us with delicious homemade cookies. We would stay there again if we travel back to Fairbanks.

This was a beautifully constructed bungalow just outside of town. Everything about the interior was top grade and thoughtfully planned by a skilled craftsman. It was comfortable with nice linens and the furnishings and art work were much appreciated. The hosts immediately greeted us and made us feel welcomed on their expansive property. The outdoor bbq and deck were a lovely place to cook a meal and relax with a beer. While our accommodations were on a shared property with the hosts, we had complete privacy and space. We look forward to staying here again.

Wonderful Stay

This place is the best, close to our daughter's home, peaceful, with great amenities. The fresh baked wild cranberry, chocolate chip cookies are a wonderful treat. This was our second stay here and we'll be back next year!

This was the Best VRBO I have ever stayed in! The bungalow was extremely clean and the hosts were very nice and knowledgeable. The homemade cookies were a nice touch especially after a 6hr drive from anchorage. I would absolutely stay here again!!!!

Perfect little spot tucked in the woods!

This bungalow property is perfect place for you to enjoy the beautiful area around Fairbanks! It is tucked into the woods, just minutes away from downtown. Very quiet and peaceful atmosphere. It has all the amenities could want/need. Carol was amazing to work with. She was very communicative and accommodating with my unusual schedule.

Cozy Little Cottage

The cottage was perfect for me and me wife. Our hosts were super friendly and responsive. They left some welcome cookies, gave restaurant recommendations and were always available for anything we needed. It was a great stay and the cottage had everything we could need.

A Nice suite beyond your imagination

This is a beautiful and super comfortable suite. Firstly, its location is convenient, and you can go to the most famous restaurants and places in 10 minutes unless you go to Chena. The property inside the suite is clean and looks like a new suite, also better than a 4-star hotel. There is always warm water and an air conditioner. There are too many advantages to list. It is also an excellent place to watch Aurora and spend a vacation. If I have more spring break time, I will spend more time here. Last but not least, Carol and Les are very friendly and Enthusiastic. I am so glad to choose their suite and know them.

Amazing stay

Carol and Les are by far the best hosts I have worked with. Starting with the yummy homemade cookies waiting when we walked in to the recommendation for must see local events, we could not have asked for a better experience. They went above and beyond to insure that we were comfortable.

Wonderful experience

This was the perfect place for our trip to Fairbanks! Carol was such a wonderful host, very easy to communicate with before and during our stay and went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful experience! We took several of her recommendations on things to do while in town, like where to go for snowmobiling/ice fishing and the best place for aurora viewing, and we truly had the best time! The property itself was BEAUTIFUL and the location was perfect, very short drive from the airport and close to town but just out of the city limits so we were able to spot the aurora from the house on our first night! The suite was very clean, well stocked with toiletries/towels/kitchen supplies etc that made our stay super comfortable. We’d absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone coming to the Fairbanks area. Thanks so much for having us!

Aspen suite

This property is beautifully furnished and meticulously maintained. The location is great, close to town and easy to find, and yet it feels woodsy and isolated. The hosts are onsite and responsive to requests. And I could see the northern lights from the driveway.

Great Place

I cannot give enough stars. Our host was phenomenal!! Carol had cookies for us when we arrived, lots of brochures on the area. She also gave us her personal recommendations. If I come back to Alaska I will definitely stay here again. Thank you for hosting us!!

Great location. About ten minutes from anywhere in Fairbanks. Very clean bungalow in the woods. We loved our time there and would definitely stay again.

Les & Carol Smallwood, have been residents in Fairbanks, Alaska, for over 34 years. The home you'd be staying in has been built by Les. The year purchased just indicates the year we purchased the piece of land it sits on. Located among aspen and spruce trees, the Bungalow suite is on the ground level on the whole right side of the first building on the property. The other side of the building houses our storage area, fully separate. We have one dog (friendly and will not bother you). We love our location and privacy and hope you'll consider staying with us, we enjoying telling visitors about the different unique best places in Fairbanks. We look forward to making your stay memorable.

Our place is Not located in Ester, it is located only 3 miles from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, (UAF) on the West side of town in Fairbanks. This property is a total of 2.5 acres that was purchased by Les Smallwood in 1991, and then he began the process of clearing the woods and building the house you see today on it. We picked this part of town because it is near the University, doesn't have a lot of commercial business cluttering and hiding the natural beauty of the area, it is private and quiet, and it is still very close and convenient to everything in town. It is also located within the best schools' districts in the city, ensuring that our kids would go to the best public schools available.

Living with woods all around means privacy, and that you may get visits from the local moose. The air is fresh, and the water tastes good right out of the faucet, no filtering needed. If you are here in the Summer, the days are long and beautiful. In the Winter, the auroras are clear and strong, without any city light pollution.
VIDEO of the AURORAS during an exceptional evening on Sept 28, 2017, by my husband, Les Smallwood, looking towards the house, RIGHT OVER THE VRBO. Of course, the auroras raged way longer than the short video represented here. It is typical when there is a night of high activity, on clear nights that the auroras can be seen right outside the door, if you just walk out and look up. Sometimes you have to look North, but Most of the time, they arc right over the house. It's almost as if we picked the spot for the house according to the natural line of the auroras.
