Day 1: Upon arrival, we were shocked to see that a property listed as « sparkling clean » was actually really dirty and had not been cleaned at all. The floors, inside and on the deck, were so dusty and grimy that we did not want to walk on them. We had to remove a nightmare of a heavy rug that was full of sand, dust and dirt, clean all the small appliances (coffee maker, toaster, kettle) that were covered in grease, deal with a bad stench in the main bathroom sink that did not respond to normal cleaning, and scrub the kitchen counter several times to get rid of the greasy film. We were not even sure that the sheets and towels were clean.
Day 2: I reported these issues to the help line as there is no local property manager. I was eventually contacted late pm by someone in the Philippines, then by a person somewhere in California who communicated by text. He did send a housekeeper but by then it was dinnertime and dark outside so we did not ask her to clean the deck. Then a serious electrical problem occurred because there no plate on an outlet in the small bedroom that caused a power outage in half the condo. With the housekeeper’s assistance, we tried to no avail to get the problem dealt with that evening but had to spend the night with no power in the master bedroom, the en suite bathroom, the long hallway, the small bedroom, the laundry room, and the kitchen. No electrician until around 10:30 the next morning. Fortunately, he repaired everything.
Day3: I had fortunately arranged to have a mid-week cleaning and the same housekeeper came back and was able to get the place in much better shape inside and out but by then we had lost 3 days of our holiday. A member of the AvantStay leadership team from Florida left me a phone message later in the day to apologize for all the issues. Much appreciated.
Day 4: We had friends over and it was the only good day.
Day 5: my car alarm went off, meaning that someone had probably tried to get into the car. There is no garage on this property so cars are vulnerable.
Day 6: My husband caught one of the other guests looking into our car. By then we had had enough and left 1 day early. It was a very bad week for us. Hopefully next guests will have an easier time.
