Experience living in historic Eau Claire

We had 4 families all sharing space (and a dog). Plenty of room to spread out & relax. It was a rainy weekend so we were thankful to have such a nice home to enjoy. It was fun to cook & eat together at the big dining room table. Memorable experience for all!

Comfortable historic home

Three generations thoroughly enjoyed three nights in a beautiful home. The screen porch was a favorite spot. Adults played games while watching the little ones at the park out back. Take a left from the driveway and walk through this amazing neighborhood.

Historic Demmler House Stay

We appreciated the historic architecture of the property and its original family story. The house had plenty of space for our family and pup to explore. The outdoor porch and park behind the property adds an additional space.Though we did not connect with the host, a phone number was available. All bedrooms on the upper floor may present a challenge for those with mobility issues. Overall,we enjoyed our stay!

Graduation extravaganza

This house is beautiful. It was the perfect size for our group who was in town for graduation. We didn’t want to eat out and hassle with restaurant reservations since we had an infant in our family. We were easily able to comfortably entertain our group at this house. The feedback from our family was, “What a perfect weekend we had by being able to stay at this house.” Katie is easy to communicate with and responds quickly when contacted. I really can’t say enough how great of an experience we had this past weekend. Thank you!!

The home is perfect for families and centrally located to many trails and downtown. The history of the home is amazing while still providing modern comforts.

Interesting house. Nice property

We enjoyed our stay. The house is old and floors are creaky and that is to be expected. Screened in porch was quite nice!

Family vacation

The house is beautiful and spacious. Kitchen is well equipt but would have liked a crock pot. One of the twin rooms has a trundle bed but was comfortable. The front porch is large and has a big table and plenty of chairs. Katie was available with information regarding getting in.

Really Really Nice Place

Katie was great and accommodated our every need. This was the easiest rental we have ever done on VBRO. Location was perfect with everything in downtown Eau Claire being walk-able. House was very clean and well kept, usually old victorian homes are a little dicey but the house was large and had very comfortable beads. Rear screen porch was perfect for relaxing in the evening. We will rent again when we return to Eau Claire.

Nice house, unexpected fee

Enjoyed the house, very lovely. Was surprised when we were charged an unexpected fee when the five year old’s babysitter fell through for one night.

Great stay, 1 item could be improved.

Amazing house, very comfortable and great decor. Loved it, but two things opportunities for improvement: 1) No smart tv in house. Smart tv’s are so cheap, you could get one small one for $100 and guests could then have Netflix, Amazon prime, etc. otherwise you are stuck with just local digital channels. A Small improvement for such a big customer satifier.

Relaxing weekend

We stayed here for a long weekend and it was a nice little retreat. The park right across the yard was great for my kids, and across the park and down the street (Putnam) is a peaceful woodsy gravel road perfect for a walk or run with our dog. We were thankful the park was dark with no lights in the evening because we were able to go outside and watch the meteor shower! The screened-in porch was wonderful, we ate all our meals out there, played games, and it was a great spot for our dog to romp. The other great thing about old houses is there are doors everywhere, in between all the rooms so it was helpful to give our 10-month-old large dog some space to explore but not too much space. The co-op only two blocks away was good for the few groceries we needed to buy. On Sunday morning we took the dog for a walk in a different direction and realized the house is on the cusp of a neighborhood with lovely old houses so that was fun area to explore. We all agreed the beds were super comfy! I would love to know what brand they are. One thing lacking was large pots in the kitchen. Cooking for even just for the four of us was a bit hard with a smallish pot and a 8-inch skillet. A blender would be a good addition too. But overall, we had a quiet, relaxing stay!

Lovely old home. Deer in the yard in the mornings. All 7 of us had our own beds. Three areas and a large dining room to congregate in. Walking distance to downtown and campus.

We were in town for a family reunion and wanted our entire family to be together in one big house. The grandkids thought the house was "so cool"..."so many rooms"...and the cool toilet flusher :)It was a good stay - somewhat pricey I would say however. I wished there would have been King beds in the 3 main bedrooms - there certainly was enough room for it, and perhaps putting a fan in each of the bedrooms (we eventually found 3 fans). Because of the age of the house, the electrical outlets were a challenge :) Lastly, I don't remember if the TV situation was explained in the listing thoroughly...TV channels were lacking and we should have brought a ROKU stick - no one had their computer with to use the HDMI cord provided. The place was clean and a unique place to stay - we were out and about a lot for the reunion too, so we didn't spend a ton of time indoors. The park behind the house was an added bonus.

Perfect family getaway

Our family of 9 (5 adults, 4 grandkids) had the pleasure of staying at the historic Demmler house in Eau Claire for our annual holiday getaway. We all loved the home's character definitely recommend a stay here to anyone. The beds were all comfortable, the whole house was well-appointed, and the host was welcoming and gracious. Nine thumbs up. :-)

State Street Sisters Back at UWEC

1989 graduates for UWEC back in Eau Clair for the first time! We LOVED Katie's place. So spacious and lovely! Katie was so easy to work with. She made sure we were happy with everything! Can't wait to come back to this lovely house!

Amazing historic home in best part of Eau Claire

This was a really cool place to stay- a big huge house with an amazing backyard(and park adjacent)! We were able to bring our small dog as well. We are originally from Eau Claire and we knew we wanted to be in this third ward neighborhood, which is a beautiful historic part of Eau Claire and walk around the neighborhood with beautiful trees, flowers, homes, and close to the river. Host Katie was very helpful!

Beautiful and original older home in quiet neighborhood

This is a beautiful older home in a quiet well kept neighborhood that backs up to a lovely park. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you would need to “eat-in”. There is a wonderful attached, private back porch area that is screened in. A definite plus! My only wish would have been that fans would have been provided in the bedroom areas as it did become stuffy sleeping upstairs at night. Overall, a wonderful experience!

Fun holiday visit

We very much enjoyed this historic home while visiting family for the holidays. The spacious main floor gave us plenty of room to spread out for the games and puzzling the kids like to do, or just sit around the large dining room table and talk if you wanted. And everyone had their own bedroom which was fantastic. Nicely updated kitchen with new appliances. Too bad there was no snow to enjoy this time; we wanted to go skiing! Maybe next year.

Matt grew up in Whitehall, Wisconsin, and went to school in La Crosse, before moving to Minneapolis for 25 years. Katie was born and raised in the Denver, Colorado, area and moved to Minneapolis in '98. They moved to Eau Claire in 2014 for a tech start-up gig and found this beautiful place that felt like the chance of a lifetime.

We both had an affinity for the house and the surrounding beauty. It's quiet and calming energy is serene and inviting. The house was built by a florist and was owned by the same family for 111 years and still has some of their furniture and photos that were left behind.

Breezes on the back porch, bird watching during breakfast, children laughing in the park, the community gardens next door, the skate rink in the winter, walk and bike paths nearby, all allow you to feel close to nature. We've had deer, turkey, raccoons, and rabbits in the yard, and coyotes and owls in the area (on the rare occasion). You frequently see eagles soaring above the river, and sometimes perched in nearby trees. We didn't learn about these things until after we lived there. When we chose the house, we hadn't looked at a single other place. It just felt that it was meant to be.
