Union Pier Long Weekend

We had a great stay at The Big Chill #6. The location of this condo can't be beat. Walkable to the Union Pier Social for dinner as we got in around 9pm local time. Walked to the Black Currant bakery, as well as the Gelato place. The little store next to the bakery had a few items we missed picking up at Barney's grocery in New Buffalo, so that was a plus. The bakery in the morning can have a line so (it moves quickly though) and the other bakry in Harbert (Luisa's) is another one we loved and is only a 10 minute drive towards Warren dunes. We walked (8 mins) to Goodwin beach and it felt like a private beach, even though it is public. I ran around the neighborhood on Lakeshore Dr. and also a few side streets and saw other bikers, walkers, runners, families headed to the beach. Overall, a nice area to take the family. The furnishings in the condo were beach contemporary and the sofas and beds were all very comfortable. The screened in porch was nice to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, as well as relaxing in the evenings. Internet speed was reliable and fast. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook breakfast and a couple of dinners. The pool area was nice and we enjoyed floating around - the pool was heated and there were plenty of lounge chairs. We would absolutely stay here again and are already looking to book something in the early fall.

Nice screened in porch

We had a great time! Not too far of a walk to the beach and to local restaurants. Loved the screened in porch! Didn’t get to use the pool because of the weather so can’t speak to that but seemed like it would be good for families.

It could really use a deep clean, spider traps, and a new shower head.

The first night when we crawled into bed we discovered sand in our beds which made us question the cleanliness of our sheets. We contacted the management company who was quickly responsive and offered to resend housekeeping. They were also very responsive to help us find missing remotes and get the fireplace working! However, they didn't come when they said they would when we contacted about the very moldy shower head (even the young kids complained it didn't work well, when I tried to adjust it I got a hand full of black from the mold... no wonder we all had such bad allergies ... we were showering in mold and sleeping in dirty sheets?! Yikes!). The outdoor furniture and table was thick with what seemed to be a few weeks worth of dirt and construction dust that needed to be cleaned when we arrived. There were A LOT of cobwebs, spider eggs, and spiders around the house, so we spent some additional time vacuuming up those as well. It seemed that perhaps the house had been vacant for awhile before our stay which contributed to the bugs making themselves cozy. Hopefully our cleaning made it nicer for the next guest! The kitchen is overwhelmed with items - you will certainly have any cooking equipment you require, I think I even saw 2 crock pots! There are lots of pool/beach toys and even some kid life jackets for use. However, the house could use some other basics like additional blankets. If you're a family staying for more than a few days you will want to pack additional: laundry soap (you only get 1 pack), additional dish soap (you get about 1 oz), hand soap (unless you are fine with the soap bars they provide), dishwasher pods (you get 1), paper towels (unless 1 will last your family for the week!), toilet paper (you get 2 rolls per bathroom), cleaning wipes, garbage bags. We left all the extras we bought so hopefully the next few families will be well stocked! Also recommend citronella candles / bug spray for nights on the porch!

Michigan getaway

Nice condo with lots of space, nice pool, short walk to beach. Need new toaster! Cable reception in living room acting crazy? Had a nice stay.

Summer retreat

Lovely home ideal for family with toddlers. Easy access to beaches, very clean comfortable, nice pool on site, can walk to restaurant for coffee or breakfast, walk to rentals for bikes etc. upstairs unit a bit noisy when people just walking in unit Very comfortable unit with easy access to all thatvthe wonderful Michigan dunes has to offer.

Overall nice vacation rental

Overall the condo was nice. Spacious, pool was nice, walking distance to the beach and 1/2 block away from the grocery store and a few restaurants. Short drive to downtown New Buffalo. Only complaints were the cleanliness and the upstairs neighbors. Upstairs neighbors were very loud with kids running around from 5am-11pm each day. The manager did offer to send the cleaning crew back right away, but we figured if they did this careless of a job to begin with that they wouldn’t do much better the second time around. We just bought some spray and used the vacuum in the closet. Floors were covered with crumbs and dead bugs. Counters had smear marks all over them and dried up food stuck to them. Management was very nice and responsive though.

Beautiful and relaxing!

We had 2 adults and 5 children and we all fit very comfortably. Short walk to the beach and the pool was so fun. The neighbors were great. The screened in porch was my favorite and we ate dinner there every night. Wonderful experience.

Great location

Our family had a good trip. The location was perfect. Walking right down to the beach and having the bakery, stores, etc. right around the corner was convenient. The condo itself was spacious enough for our family but could use some simple updates. The unit was a little messy. There was mold on the shower curtain and a pretty old and dirty area rug in the living room. All simple things that are easy to fix. We also had to buy our own toilet paper and paper towels and there was no laundry detergent, yet we were required to start a load before check out. Every other rental home we have stayed at in the past provided these items. None of this was a big deal. It just would have been nice to have them. We enjoyed the big sunroom and the pool was nice and not crowded. Overall our family had a fun time there.

Wonderful vacation in the heart of Union Pier

We had a great time and enjoyed our stay very much. The condo was excellent and is in the perfect location. We were walking distance to the beach and close to all the activities in New Buffalo. We also enjoyed the bakery and coffee shop next door. The Condo accommodated our family perfectly and met all of our needs.

Great home with lots of room!

Loved the home - lots of room which was perfect for our family! The pool was nice and we had it to ourselves most of the time. Short walk to the beach and to a bakery and market. Lovely area with lots to do. Only drawbacks were the price of the home as when we were there we found some others for quite a bit cheaper in the same area and all of the furniture on the screened porch was filthy - we tried to clean it off but couldn't get it clean enough to use.

Perfect for a girls' getaway!

I stayed here with two friends for a girls’ getaway. The condo was exactly as pictured on the website! It was clean, spacious, and well-decorated. The owners were quick to respond to messages, and they included so many thoughtful amenities, like a wheeled cart full of beach supplies, a well-stocked kitchen including a pad of paper on the refrigerator to use for a grocery list, and a binder full of restaurant and activity recommendations. The location was perfect, walking distance to the beach and a few restaurants, and just a short drive to local wineries. We are looking forward to a return trip!

Disappointing is the best I can think of to describe the cleanliness of this condo. When my husband and I arrived, we had to sweep and clean the entire screen porch as it didn't appear to have been done since winter. We had to wear our shoes in the home due to the fact that the floors were so dirty. The coffee maker didn't work, the microwave had old food in it, the outlet in the Master Bedroom was hanging out of the wall. The Master bathroom shower had mold it in and the bottom of the tub was too dirty to take a shower without sandals on. The location to the beach and the semi private pool were the only things that saved this place in our opinion. I was going to send this review to Light House Rentals directly and not post it on here as I thought they should know about it and have a chance to talk to there cleaning service but when I contacted them looking to see if our deposit check had been mailed, they never even asked how we liked the place or that they hoped we enjoyed our stay. Since there was no follow up, I figured the email review really would not have mattered. This is our first time using Homeaway and will consider another service in the future. Left us feeling dirty to say the least.

Great week-long stay

Family of 5 (kids aged 13, 10, and 8) stayed here for a wonderful visit. The condo was more than enough room for us - especially enjoyed the screened in porch and ate most of our meals there. Easy walking access to the public beach and nearby general store. Easy car access to all the small towns along Red Arrow Highway from Michigan City, IN to St Joseph, MI. Kids really enjoyed the on-site pool. Would recommend the condo and would stay there again - pics are very accurate representation of the property.

Huge open family room! Great for groups

We stayed here in April- and it rained. And we didn't care. The location couldn't be better for visiting the local breweries and distillery, as well as the beach and casino (all of which we did), but the highlight of this weekend was hanging out around the giant dining room table. Playing cards or even just chatting with the rest of the group while cooking in the kitchen. The condo has such a great shared space (with bedrooms off to the sides), that the table was really was the best part of the vacation. There's a really nice screened in porch, too, in warmer weather! We can't wait to get back!

Very nice!

This is a wonderful place to to stay in a small town near New Buffalo, MI. Very well maintained spacious, newer construction with an open layout. It is even more beautiful than the pics show! The heated pool and small public beach within 2 blocks were great activities. Warren Sand Dunes are 10 min. away. Grande Beach in New Buffalo is also 10 min. away. Wine tours nearby. Great salons nearby for spa time too! Perfect place to get away with family or friends. Love love loved staying here for a week! We will definately be back!

Simply "AWESOME" !!!!

My wife and I spent a weekend at this beautiful condo. It had everything you could ask for, Being beautifully furnished and fully equipped, it felt like home away from home. Very comfortable and spacious. There was so much to do: beaches, shopping, the casino and not to mention restaurants from casual burgers to full blown dinners - all just minutes away. We will be going back as soon as we can.

Unforgettable trip to Michigan!

Love this place!

We love this place. My husband and I stayed here with our 2 young children and my parents over Memorial Day weekend. We really enjoyed having a pool onsite for the kids and we all loved the beaches (and they are so close by). The condo itself is beautiful and feels very private. It was great having the kitchen geared out with everything we needed to cook dinner and grill. My favorite part is the huge screened porch. We ate all of our meals out there and spent time just relaxing and drinking wine after the kids were in bed. The location is ideal. It's great to be so close to the beach and also so close to the bakery, restaurants and corner market. We can't wait to get back! Perfect place to stay for the perfect getaway!

Great Rental - Great Time

What a great time and great rental! My family and I stayed here last year and this past July. We had a fabulous time and we will be back in 2011 again. We had six adults and three children - and we had pleanty of room. The condo has everything you want - towels, cooking essentials, gas grill, beach toys and chairs and all the amenities of home. The condo is very well maintained, clean, roomey and very inviting. The beach is only two blocks away and the pool is just a few steps away. This location is close to everything - restruants, groceries, ice cream, sandwiche shops are just a block away, New Buffalo is a five minute car drive and the golf course or casino is just ten minutes away. We had a great, relaxing time and I would highly recommend this rental to anyone seeking the same.
