This house has been beautifully photographed for the Vacasa and VRBO websites. And we had a lovely time staying there. But still -- some very serious disappointments, especially when renting through VRBO and paying the VRBO markup. (I later looked on the Vacasa site directly, and the price would have felt more reasonable had we done it that way.)
The house has a kind of faded glory. So much has not been updated in so long. And that is OK, there was a kind of charm of living in the 1970s, it just wasn't expected from the listing.
The bigger issue was cleanliness. Some of that comes about from just over-hasty changeover - sticky residue of what appeared to be orange juice concentrate in the freezer, numerous (but not all) pots, utensils, flatware and crockery with stains or grease or (even worse) baked-on left over food. We had to really give the kitchen our own clean to feel comfortable there. Sad. But after we did that, it was indeed comfortable. But kind of crummy to spend some hours of your paid vacation to clean stuff that shoudl have been cleaned in the first place.
Beds, sheets, towels -- all that was fine and nicely presented and nicely clean.
BUT THE FLOORS. Oh my goodness, these floors are FILTHY. They have years, decades maybe, of accumulated grime built up on them. If you simply moisten a piece of paper towel and rub anywhere on the floor anywhere in the house, you get dirty grimy results in about two rubs. These floors need to be properly mopped and cleaned perhaps not between every visit, but maybe once a year? And the rugs on the floors are also kind of skeevy. We turned it into a joke so it didn't ruin our vacation, but really? At at that price? Yuck.
Perhaps related, the whole house has a kind of not-properly-cleaned-in-too-long mildewy smell and feel. It needs an overhaul.
Location, views, and general friendly layout vibe were great. We had a good time. But felt a little ripped-off.
