The architecture and setting of the house are incredible. The entirety of the main house is a lavish open floor plan, which extends a sense of tranquility and open air, inside/outside living throughout. This is primarily achieved with two primary architectural features: A large common area, which includes a generous living room and dining room under a two-floor ceiling and the remaining kitchen bar & full size kitchen under a drop ceiling; and 4'X8', fold-away doors. Six of these doors separate the living room from the lanai, which wraps around the front of the house. The outdoor living room set on the lanai includes a full sized couch, two lounge chairs, and two beach loungers. The view is spectacular: A short manicured lawn, surrounded by a four foot high hedge that separates the property from the lava rock beach and the active tide pools nestled in between the lava rocks and the reef just beyond them. From the lanai, framed between two perfectly positioned palms, the view extends nearly boundless to the east, the open Pacific ocean and the horizon line where the ocean meets the pink sky beyond. To the north and south, there's an equally marvelous view of the Puako shore, tranquil in the morning, with mounting breezes blowing in cool air in the evenings. meeting the open. On the opposite side of the living room at the entrance to the great common room, four sliding door panels make a picturesque opening to the interior garden of tropical plants on the front side of the house. Four more door panels open off of the kitchen to an outside dining area at the end of the lanai to the north. And there is a bonus room -- a den just off the kitchen is enclosed in glass panels of the same size on two sides facing inward toward the garden.
The bedroom/bathroom layout was perfect for our group of 7 people, but the house could have slept 9 or 10 people just as easily. A separate entry off the garden, the lower floor has a stairways up to 2 grand suites, one fitted with a ensuite bath & shower, the other with an ensuite multiheaded shower in full view of the Pacific & the horizon beyond through mirrored glass. The lower floor features a half bath for guests, a room with twin beds for kids, another bedroom with a double bed and a shared full bath between them.
The owners also provide two kayaks, a single and a double, a SUP, a surf board, and two boogey boards, and 10 sets of snorkling gear for exploring the ocean. And, we made daily use of these.
