For the vacances de ski this year, we stayed at this lovely home with another family (4 adults, 6 kids) and very much enjoyed the beautiful views, the hikes, and the ability to drive to a ski resort without having to be in the middle of the standard ski vacation crush. Although the children were hoping to have some snow while there, it wasn't meant to be this winter. Even so, I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking to find a bit of calm any time of the year. Beyond the write-up, we found the following to be strong points:
- Very well equipped home. Unlike some other homes that we have stayed in via Abritel, this place has almost everything you need for cooking, cleaning, and life in general.
- The home theater room is amazing! There are no photos on the website, but it is certainly a high-point of the home and something that the children enjoyed.
- The yard is beautiful and completely surrounded by a fence. Our two toddlers were able to wander and explore without us having to worry about them "breaking out."
- The hiking trails in the area are great, meandering through fields, forests, and up and down the mountains.
- We found a nice little ski resort for the kids only about an hour away at Les Aillons-Margériaz 1400. While not massive or too technically difficult, it is great for a day on the slopes with family.
Some things to know before you go--
- Part of the beauty of this home is that it is somewhat remote. Consequently, it is also difficult to find for the first time...in the dark...and the rain...with tired, screaming children in the back of the car. I HIGHLY recommend getting a GPS coordinate before setting out. The directions that we received were a bit difficult to follow.
- While lovely during the winter, this area is really more focused on the summer tourists. Consequently, many of the lakefront shops and restaurants were closed while we were there.
Bottom line, we would certainly return--perhaps next time during the warmer months when we can benefit from the lake and the jacuzzi!
