Hi.
I am an adventurous Kiwi who has lived and worked across the Asian region for over 20 years, most of them in Thailand. I have travelled all over South East Asia by trail bike much of it off-road and have made Chiang Mai my home, as it's such a fabulous place to live.
Has a great climate, wonderfully friendly, warm people, delicious Northern Thai food, and an unequalled, chilled out relaxed pace of life.
After 18 years here, I have a good understanding of Thai culture and also the best places to visit in Chiang Mai and surrounds depending on your preferences.
Chiang Mai is an ancient city surrounded by a moat and is a tourist mecca with a great coffee and digital culture and has all the amenities of a modern city, yet still retains its old-world charm and gentle Lanna style culture and hospitality. It has many temples, and is handy to dozens of tourist activities from bungee jumping, elephant nature parks, carousing with tigers, zip lining, and trips on a rented scooter into the neighbouring mountains.
It always has a place in the 10 Top Best Cities in the World to live as voted for by the readers of the prestigious Travel + Leisure website.
What keeps me fit and curious is off road motorcycling and running kayaking, cruises and mountain biking adventure tours down the Mekong River in Laos and building schools in remote riverside villages along the Mekong. I still do a lot of off-road motorcycling in Laos and also love to travel across the region.
Like most people here, I'm very chilled out and casual as I've been here a while, and know all the best places to eat, and visit depending on your preferences. Also all the exciting places you probably won't find listed in Lonely Planet or Trip Advisor.
