This villa is located in a lovely village about 30 minutes outside of Avignon. Great location to explore Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Baux, St. Remy, Aix en Provence, and Montpellier. The neighbor was wonderful extremely helpful — he let us know of village happenings and offered advice to open up the villa.
The villa was clean, but had not been readied for us. We put out all outdoor furniture and worked with the custodian and neighbor to try to cool the house down. The geothermal system in the first-floor tiles finally cooled us by the 3rd day. None of the bedrooms truly cooled, and one room’s system was clearly broken as was the guest house’s. Normal sleeping pillows were not available. Linens were available. Instructions for the system and for the WiFi were in Dutch, whereas English, French, or German, or all of them, would have been welcome. Being able to understand the instructions to the various systems would have made the first few days more pleasant.
The bedrooms in the main house are on the second floor - master bedroom has a full bath, one bedroom has a ensuite shower and sink (the toilet is shared with 2 other bedrooms), and 2 other bedrooms share a bathroom. Unfortunately neither the half-bath toilet on the first floor nor the toilet in the small guest house worked. A plumber was unable to fix them. Communication with the owner during our stay was difficult.
The pool had dirt and leaves in it when we arrived . Our scooping and constant attention to the robotic cleaner got it clear in a day. The pool provided a wonderful and essential respite during the very hot (record high days) of our stay.
This villa has great potential. We appreciated the dishwasher, kitchen supplies, 2 refrigerators, and washer-dryer. There was room for our large family to spread out and gather together as needed. We enjoyed the village of Maillane very much; biking into town or along the country roads was a favorite activity
