Thank you for your feedback, Edward. The split air unit in this condo is brand new. As new owners we were elated that the HVAC company could fit us into their busy schedule so quickly as there was no a/c in the unit when we took possession and we felt it was a necessity for our guests' comfort. The muffled "purring" sound you were hearing is the small evaporative pump which periodically pumps the condensation to the drain. Condensation is a natural occurrence on Maui where heat and humidity are constantly fluctuating. We are sorry that it was an issue for you. The previous two guests before you made no mention of it, in fact one commented about how well the a/c worked and we personally didn't find it to be a problem for us during our week's stay after installation. It may be that it is more noticeable if you are a very light sleeper. Since the pump is in the closet we plan to have an insulated encasement installed around it which should resolve any issue for light sleepers. The bed is a queen sized bed just as advertised. Our expectation is that travelers who require a king sized bed would book appropriate accommodations to fulfill that need. The view is exactly as pictured in our ad. We think it is fabulous and the only thing that would make it better is to have a unit right on the beach.. We are sorry that you found the umbrella broken and we have arranged to have a new one brought in. As you can imagine, it is an ongoing problem because people take them to the beach and then fail to fold them up during the afternoon when the winds are strong making it almost impossible to keep them in good working condition. With regard to changing the light bulbs, we appreciate your suggestion and will make those changes when on-island again. As new owners with limited time during our first visit, we haven't yet been able to address every cost saving measure. The cost of electricity is very high on Maui with air-conditioning units being the highest consumer. We only kindly ask that guests turn off the a/c and fans when away from the unit for extended periods of time. We don't feel that that is an unreasonable request. Some owners actually put their a/c units on a 4-6 hour timer which causes you to have to get up in the middle of the night to turn it back on. We find that to be very disruptive and have no desire to impose such timers on our guests. Thank you for choosing D-408 for your stay.
