First, the property itself is stunning. I mean you can tell from the pictures. We had a great time while there (since of course it’s beautiful and is in wine country).
We did have quite a few problems though. The power went out, so there was an issue with the gate, and the pool cover was tricky. It’s a difficult place to get “right”. There’s a lot of upfront paperwork and PDFs, and not much of it goes through VRBO. Then afterward, I attempted to contact the property manager to let them know about the gate, but instead got a scathing call from the owner of the house because a member of our party didn’t know how to use the pool cover and so it was jammed and then the gate was messed up from the power outage. Also, I was told we left it “trashed” even though we took out all the trash, we did all the dishes, we stripped the beds, and we left the common spaces relatively tidy.
All in all, it’s a beautiful property, and I’m sure the owner/manager meant the best, but it really is difficult to use unless you have someone on your trip who is willing to spend hours on house logistics.
For improvement, signage about the pool cover beside where the key is would be helpful. And while there’s nothing that can be done about the power going out, an easier-to-remedy manual override would’ve helped. Also, just less paperwork to read to make sure all the boxes are checked would really be helpful—it does feel like we had to read a lot of fine print and talk for a while to get anything right.
