Sand and Sun Beachfront Home on Chesapeake Bay - Gwynn’s Island, Mathews County

The cottage is located on the southeastern tip of Gwynn's Island, offering beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay, stunning sunrises, and stargazing in a rural setting. The semi-private sandy shoreline and shallow beach with minimal waves are ideal for young families. Enjoy canoeing, paddleboarding, kayaking and fishing on the bay. Lounge and relax on the large L-shaped deck with two dining tables (bar height 4-seater overlooking the bay and a rectangular table with seating for up to seven) and lounging chairs with views of the Chesapeake Bay and salt pond. If you enjoy watching wildlife, keep an eye out for dolphins, osprey, sea turtles, muskrats, cranes, blue herons, eagles and an assortment of birds. The interior features a spacious and open floor plan with natural light, a large central skylight, fully equipped kitchen, dining table with seating for 10, three bedrooms and three full bathrooms. A spacious primary bedroom features views of the Chesapeake Bay, king size bed, smart tv, en-suite bathroom with walk-in closet. The second bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed and en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower. The third bedroom has twin bunk beds, a queen bed and smart tv. In the garage you will find beach chairs and toys, beach umbrellas, noodles, PFDs, and a wagon to transport equipment to the beach. The private outdoor shower is perfect for rinsing off sand and salt after a long day (or evening) on the beach. The cottage is near the Gwynn's Island RV Resort in Mathews County, Virginia. Located a short 10-15 minute drive from the island is the small town of Mathews where you can enjoy casual and upscale dining, the local summer farmer's market, vintage and antique shops, and local art gallery. For nature lovers, Bethel Beach Natural Area Preserve and Haven Beach are beautiful spots to enjoy nature walks and wildlife. Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Williamsburg Premium Outlets, Jamestown Settlement, and the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center are approximately 45 to 55 miles from the island. The picturesque town of Gloucester is an easy 30-minute drive with a variety of local shops and restaurants.

We had a fantastic time at this vacation rental with my wife and kids. The house was immaculate and perfectly suited for a family getaway. It provided everything we needed for an enjoyable week at the beach, including beach chairs, sand toys, umbrellas, and all the essentials for water fun. The location was ideal for relaxing by the bay and making great memories. We highly recommend this rental for families looking for a comfortable and convenient beach vacation!

The property was exceptional! Clearly the owner put a great deal of thought into furnishing the home and provided every possible amenity. We enjoyed kayaking in the Chesapeake from our private beach and relaxing on the spacious deck. Gwynn's Island and the neighboring towns of Mathews, Gloucester and Kilmarnock were charming. We're already planning to return next October. Thank you ... it was a perfect vacation!

Wonderful stay!

This was our first time to Gywnn Island and won’t be our last! The house is gorgeous and the owner has thought of everything that you would need. You feel like you have the whole area to yourself, even with the RV park next door you really didn’t notice it. It’s a fantastic trip to get away from the busy everyday things and slow down!

Based on previous reviews and ratings, we expected the house to be nice. It was beyond our expectations. Not only did the house have every comfort imaginable (think linens, towels, comfortable beds, shampoo, conditioner, well stocked kitchen and every beach item needed) it was a wildlife experience. We saw bald eagles nesting nearby, a blue heron, an osprey, a hummingbird, hermit crabs, a snapping turtle, little black crabs and of course blue crabs, lots of fish, tree frogs and so many more creatures - a little kid's delight. And best of all, no jelly fish. A wonderful home and host.

Second Perfect Stay

Our second year vacationing at Daisy's beautiful home. The house is appointed with everything you could need and more. Beautifully and comfortably appointed. The location is convenient to so much, but you still feel glorious privacy. Daisy is prompt an to communicate with, and makes the hole stay seamless. A little piece of Heaven

This was a superb holiday ... The cottage was delightful, neat and orderly with spectacular views of the Chesapeake Bay ! We had our own private beach , with nice sturdy chairs and soft white sand. It was lovely just sitting, reading on the beach and watching all the wonderful wildlife .... a very special place !

Perfection

We had an amazing stay with our pups! The house is stocked with everything you need, it’s bright & airy, we loved the remoteness & the private beach was heaven! Day trips to Gloucester & Williamsburg which are both within an hours drive & are dog friendly. We travel quite a bit with our pups & this is by far the nicest place we’ve stayed. So nice I’m booking our next trip! Daisy is an amazing host!

Absolutely amazing!

This house is stunning- from the views on the porch to the decor you feel as if you are surrounded by high quality high end items. The space was beautifully designed in every room and the porch/patio area had the most comfortable furniture. The beach was private and large and the kayaks and water toys ect available for use were above and beyond what we had imagined. We look forward to booking our next trip and highly recommend this property to others!

Fantastic

We were visiting family that lives in the area for Christmas and rented this lovely home while there. Every detail was thought about and taken care of. The kitchen was well-stocked with utensils, cookware, and dishes. The owner thoughtfully provided lots of extras including soap, shampoo, bug spray, etc. We look forward to renting again.

Wonderful!!

My Husband and I have been visiting Mathews every Summer since 2006. This is by far one of nicest, actually the nicest, experience that we have ever had while on vacation. The house is beautifully appointed inside and out. We wanted for absolutely nothing. You feel perfectly secluded with the landscaping and private beach, while still being close to town and all that the area has to offer. Hoping to stay next year and many to follow.

above and beyond

I was so impressed with the quality of this house - beautiful renovation, super well-stocked and high quality everything. Beach gear was plentiful and in great condition. House was bright and airy with a beautiful view of the Bay from the porch, living room and kitchen. Communication with Daisy was easy and friendly too. The RV park is next door but wasn't an issue for us, except maybe detracting from the view just a bit.

Enjoyed evry minute!!

The host thought of everything more. We were so impressed with every thoughtful attention to detail. They went above and beyond to help guests feel welcome and comfortable...including a fully stocked game closet, another closet with beach towels, bug spray, sunscreen, beach bag and other beach gear, binoculars, a variety of books, colored pencils and activity books for all ages, just to name a few amenities. The home design touches were tasteful yet creative. The beds were super comfortable too. My ONLY suggestion is to add a bench to the outdoor shower. we all hope to return soon.
