Disappointing

We are really disappointed to have paid good money to stay here given how many things were not working & even unsafe.Multiple unsafe electrical outlets.Heater on wall in bedroom on middle level doesn’t work.Kettle leaks water from window (highly unsafe) We therefore had to boil water in a saucepan for all tea/coffee.Stove top - only 1 element works & only by turning on the main power to the stovetop.None of knobs work.Ceiling lights (2) not working in kitchen/dining area. Light on staircase missing bulb.Main bathroom- Toilet seat peeling- exhaust fan drips water- heater fan not working- Towel heater not working Need an additional full size heater so all 3 bedrooms & main kitchen area have a heater. The existing heaters look like they need to be replaced with full size heaters.No window coverings in kitchen dining area so very cold & exposed at night.

Great Holiday, Average House

The house did accommodate us all and was tidyish, the 4 levels did actually work out quite well, the mezzanine floor was great for the teens to hang out and do their stuff separate from the adults but was the only area with a TV. The house did lack a bit on heating but there were extra blankets available, I always take my own pillow but I wished I had taken my duvet as the spare in the master was a bit grotty looking, but got used due to necessity. Kitchen was well appointed and all appliances were there as were plates and cutlery etc.Would liked to have been able to park in the garage but the opening mechanism was broken, all in all it was an average place to stay in, as per a few of the other comments, this place could do with a bit of a spruce up, replace broken light fixtures and bulbs, fix the front door step. Not sure what was going on about internet coverage, got Wi-Fi on the mobile but not on the laptop and when text the house contact what the was Wi-Fi password got no response, but managed to hotspot off mobile so the kids could use the xbox etc..One comment if you do stay, you need to make sure that you keep a few of the windows throughout the house on the latch over night as the place does generate a lot of condensation.All of that said, the house was OK, it was close to town and amenities, it had a big yard for kids to play in, but not fenced and on a busy road so not great for littlies unless adults present, loads of off street parking. 3.25 out of 5

Roomy house

While the criticisms in some previous reviews are true, this place does have some real positives.It is very spacious; large kitchen/dining/family area with upstairs mezzanine and large bedrooms. Good beds and nice linen. Good size double garage. Easy walking distance to town.Inadequate heating and lack of window coverings in Kitchen/d/f area would make me think twice about staying in winter; I'd definitely take a couple of heaters and extra clothing!We stayed a week with 4 adults and 2 young children and really enjoyed being there.

Perfect location and affordable

Spacious big home, with huge bedrooms, plenty of room for everyone, the home is well equipped for everything you'll need while on holiday, and the location is so handy and close to town. Thank you for having us and if we're in Taupo again, for the price and location we'd choose to stay here again.

Taupo retreat

Homeowners were lovely, easy to deal with and really helpful. The photos lacked showing the age of home. Front door is rotten, holes in walls, one bedroom unusable as black cat hair in bed, dead bugs all over one bedroom, leaking home syndrome on windows? No curtains in kitchen or lounge. Home on multiple split levels which was interesting but proved a good calf workout.

Close to Ammenities

Property had small amount of damage, Bottom Shower door did not close properly which created a Water damaged Wall/Skirting outside the shower because of leak. Few Holes in Gib Board. House was very comfortable. We only used for Sleeping and showering. Would be happy to stay again

Damaged but ok

Property has some hazards. Firstly the front doorstep is loose and broken. My wife nearly tripped and rolled her ankle. Secondly, there are a number of lights on the wall up the stairs that have no shades so wiring is visible and accessible. Property didn’t appear to have been vacuumed in a while. Not terrible but obvious. There are holes in the wall (garage, wardrobe and hall way). Bathroom tiles grout is cracked. Cracks in walls (hairline). Not a serious issue just noticeable. Probably a 1970/80’s build but not well maintained. Owner seems to be bleeding the property for short term rent. Nothing new there. NOTE: take a video of the property condition when you arrive. You don’t want the owner trying to pin any existing damage on you. Not saying they would, just be prudent.

Good for the price but needs some money spent on it

A group of 8 of us stayed here for 3 nights during winter. We were surprised to learn there was no permanent source of heating, just oil heaters throughout the house and one room's panel heater didn't work at all. Lots of things broken throughout the house - two elements on the stove didn't work, half the lights didn't work, the heated towel rail and heater in the bathroom didn't work... The list could go on. The place needs a bit of love and easy things fixed. The price was good value compared to other houses in the area so perhaps that reflects this but it doesn't take much to fix these small things and install a heat pump. We won't be returning.
