The Neighborhood:

Whangamata is about an hour and a half from Auckland, Hamilton, or Tauranga and is a much-loved coastal town famous for its fantastic surf and swimming beach. Take a kayak tour out to Donut Island, or hike to the beautiful Wentworth Falls. In town, you’ll find plenty of shops and cafés to explore, or take a short drive to Opoutere Beach to visit the Coastal Bird Reserve. For calmer waters, grab a paddleboard and head to the estuary.

Every March, Whangamata comes alive for the iconic Beach Hop—a week-long celebration where vintage cars, caravans, and motorbikes from all over New Zealand roll into town. With vibrant markets and a family-friendly party atmosphere, it’s an event not to be missed!
