The place was rented as a 3-bdrm, 2 bath "home". Never was it disclosed that it was only the 2nd floor of a house. The owner says he "is not required to disclose". Nevertheless, I parked in the driveway and blocked-out a resident who I was unaware of. He was ringing my doorbell waking me at 11:15 PM and I eventually found him in the basement.......called police and 4 police arrived and isolated the "intruder". I left as soon as I could and founbd a hotrel at 12;30 AM.

Hi Neil,
I think you overreacted, and I’m truly sorry for your experience. I understand that you’re from the United States, and here in Canada most houses come with a basement unit, and our house is no exception. The three bedrooms advertised refer to the main house, which is what you reserved. The three bedrooms were exclusively for you; nothing was or is shared. There is a door that is always locked with a clear label indicating it is private. Unfortunately, you forced the door open and went in to harass the occupant with knife. You also blocked the driveway despite the initial chat with you not to block the driveway when you checked it. The police, understanding the situation, also tried their best to explain and calm you down, but you didn’t seem to understand and insisted on leaving. We issued a refund.
I also understand that, given what you shared about your mother and also because you are from United States, you may have reacted out of worry. For context, most houses here in Canada do have basement units.
