Big Medicine Ranch - Rustic Sunrise Cabin - Catskills

The cabin is perched on a cliff that overlooks the beautiful Hudson Valley. From the porch and yard you can see clear across the Hudson Valley to the Berkshires. The cabin is clean and in great shape, but you will be glamping. The cabin has no running water, therefore it has an outhouse, outdoor solar shower bags, and water storage containers for washing dishes. The cabin has electricity and there is air conditioning, a mini-fridge, Cable TV, DVD player, and primo hot and cold water dispenser. The cabin has a one-room open floor plan with a queen size bed, couch, 2 Coleman camping cots, and dining table.

For our fall and winter guest there is an easy to use wood stove that will keep you cozy warm. We supply all the firewood for you and will have the stove ready for your arrival. There is also a central heating system that will keep the cabin warm when the wood stove is not in use.

This getaway has amazing views and privacy. It is located on twenty acres in the beautiful hamlet of Palenville at the base of Kaaterskill Clove. Kaaterskill Creek is directly across the street. There is a hiking trail that borders our property that is part of the Long Path and leads to Maeli's Lookout, Poet's Ledge, Buttermilk Falls, and Kaaterskill High Peak.
Return from a day of exploring and enjoy a campfire while gazing at the mountain views and beautiful Hudson Valley.

We have a small farmstand on our property that offers firewood, ice cream, snacks, water and other beverages.

There is a fairly steep gravel driveway that leads to the cabin. We recommend an all-wheel drive vehicle in the winter otherwise a front-wheel drive is just fine.

Due to the hazards associated with mountainous terrain and being near a cliff, this property is for adults only.

Excellent stay!

Very clean, beautiful property! Would highly recommend staying here, and we will be coming up again someday. The host provided everything and was very diligent on the details that make this a wonderful and unique place to stay

The perfect getaway

Beautiful cabin! Cozy, espectacular views and great hiking. Very comfortable and the owners did a great job providing snacks, coffee, water, wood for the fireplace. Wish we had stayed longer, but we are definitely will stay there again!

Theoretically, you just need to bring yourself to enjoy your trip with host’s cozy providing! Very cozy! They bring you everything you need at home. Snacks, body lotion and so on. Don’t hesitate! Book now!

Another world

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at this little gem which felt like another world away. The breathtaking views are the highlight for sure. That being said, the cabin was absolutely charming with wonderful hosts that stocked it with everything from coffee to treats to hand warmers. Great communication them, great recommendations by them and just thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The cabin was clean with a comfortable bed and awesome grille! Would highly recommend!

Great rustic cabin retreat!

My brother and I were looking to get away to unwind for few nights. We're so glad we found this place as the cabin is very well maintained and stocked with anything you might need. The landscape and wildlife views are pretty incredible as it is nestled near the base of the mountains. The owners Brian and Stephanie are super accommodating and knowledgeable about the area (trails, swimming holes, etc.) and there is a little farmstand at the base with all sorts of snacks, drinks, farm fresh eggs and firewood in the case you find yourself in a bind. I would highly recommend this place for those looking to escape the busy life. Looking forward to getting back!

Birds Eye View

We didn't have to travel far into the mountains to get a view of the range. Brian greeted us with warmth and generosity. It was great to be introduced to his pet show birds (falcons, owls, hawk, turkey vulture, etc.). We also enjoyed seeing the variety of wild birds souring amongst the mountainous view. The property was what we expected and then some. We loved the privacy of the outdoor showers and relaxing in the hammock with a crisp cool breeze. The complimentary eggs from their home raised chickens were delicious. Stephanie goes out of her way to keep the cozy cabin very clean and the unexpected snacks and provisions well stocked. Even the outhouse was very clean and cozy! Stephanie greeted us upon our departure with such kindness. Thank you Brian and Stephanie for wonderful stay!

The Perfect cabin

My wife and I wanted a weekend getaway away from the city life. We found this cabin and its exactly what we wanted and more. The cabin is very clean,cozy,comfortable,fully stocked and the traditional cabin style decor made our stay warm and relaxing. The panorama view of the mountains across, the town below, and the stars at night is indescribable you have to experience yourself, It’s beautiful. The owners Brian and Stephanie are amazing. They took us up the mountain to the cabin. They went over and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Overall a wonderful place we would stay here again easily. ❤️👍

Wonderful Trip

Oh where to start! First off as a couple we have to say off the back this is one of the best outdoor experiences we have ever had if not the best and we highly highly recommend this to anyone looking to get away and be out in the beautiful wilderness. We can easily make this a 3 Page review but we will try and keep it short! To begin Brian and Stephanie were such great, kind, gracious hosts. Mike turned 30 and all he wanted was to go away to a cabin and live out a true cabin experience and this was it. I found this place and immediately booked it. They are such great hosts they even worked with us to surprise decorated the place with balloons and a cake for his birthday. Talk about customer service! Mike was so surprised! We were both in awe of the cabin, the land and most importantly the cliff type view over looking the Catskills. Just from that view alone and posting on social media we have had 5 plus people asking for the information. The view was honestly the best thing to wake up to. We loved the outhouse (some bugs but that's a given) and the fact we had to keep the fire going on the furnace for optimal heat and had to take sponge baths and or shower outside made the experience. Brian and Steph were so kind and even helped get a fire started for us one day because we were having trouble. You are so close to the katerskill falls and just so much beautiful other scenery. We highly recommend this place and we also recommend possibly booking for one more day then you originally planned. All in all a wonderful memorable trip we won’t forget! Thank you Brian and Steph!

Amazing stay!

Dreamland escape

My partner and I enjoyed a fantasy-like weekend at the cabin. I was a little concerned about the "glamping" experience, but everything is available to make it comfortable and warm. Temperatures dropped to the mid 30s while we were there, but slept warmly with a few stokes of the woodburning stove. The kitchen is fully stocked. We enjoyed cooking by fire, under the stars with everything we needed at arms reach. Brian and Stephanie are impeccable hosts. They were communicative and extended themselves in every way possible to make sure our stay was pleasant, even mid stay. The view is incredible, and pictures just don't do it justice. We took a hike in the backyard which leads to the Long Path, and sat gazing out upon Kaaterskill Clove from Poet's Ledge. We didn't leave the property once. Everything we needed was on hand. The outhouse is the cleanest and most comfortable I've ever used. Thanks to the hosts, we had a magical weekend and I can't say enough good things to recommend this cabin. Go, stay, and enjoy!

INCREDIBLE Experience!

Big Medicine Ranch was an experience I'd recommend to everyone. Brian and Stephanie were such incredible and sweet hosts from communication to accommodations. They had everything covered to ensure our group was as happy and relaxed as possible. Brian is an expert of the area and built the house himself so there was no detail missed. The pictures somehow don't do the property and view justice. During these trying times, Big Medicine Ranch certainly gave us the peace and relaxation we were looking for (and the eggs from the family coop were unreal!). Truly an amazing experience, we'll be sure to return!

Beautiful cabin and property

The cabin was perfect and we got a beautiful view of the moon at night and sunrise in the morning. Property was beautiful and had everything we needed. Loved the s’mores basket, selection of teas and coffees, extra blankets, and movies (we watched Gremlins) . Also enjoyed the wood burning stove & fire pit outside.Plan on coming back again. Thanks for the hospitality!

Mountain cabin magic

Very cool, sparse hunting cabin with cookout amenities. Played boardgames and hiked Kaaterskill Falls. Brian was super friendly and made himself very available.

Weekend Stay

Brian and Stephanie were wonderful hosts, and the cabin was exactly what I wanted. It’s perched above the Hudson Valley, and alternated between cloudy mist and clear blue skies with a view all the way to western Massachusetts. The cabin is a rustic, which I enjoyed, and had everything I needed. Brian was attentive and made sure I had everything needed during the stay, including firewood and fresh eggs. The cabin is right by a trailhead that leads into the Kaaterskill forest trail network, which links up right by the cabin. Brian was happy to talk through hiking routes and what to look out for, which I really appreciated. Overall I was a great experience and would recommend.

Incredible view and great hosts

Brian was incredibly nice and had the place prepped with everything we needed. The view was to die for. Since there's no running water, it would have been tough to stay for more than a single night since we couldn't wash dishes etc. But for what we needed it was perfect. Woke up to watch the sunrise - highly recommend for anyone who stays here.

Hi I'm Brian! My wife Stephanie and I have been hosting our cabin since 2020. The cabin is located on our poroperty which has been in my family since the early 1900s. We put a lot of pride into making your stay an experience you'll cherish and want to return to.

This property is unique in it's privacy yet so close to neighboring towns of Saugerties, Woodstock, Tannersville, and Hunter. There is also a hiking trail, called the "Long Path", that can be accessed right from the cabin that leads to incredible vistas such as Poet's Ledge and Buttermilk Falls. For more experienced hikers, the trail continues to one of the Catskill's 3,500 peaks called Kaaterskill High Peak.
