I first arrived in Albany 31 years ago as a backpacker, with no real plan—just curiosity and a sense of adventure. What I didn’t expect was that this beautiful corner of Western Australia would completely capture my heart and become home.

Albany has a way of getting under your skin. Maybe it’s the fresh ocean air, the stunning coastline, or the relaxed, welcoming community—but once you experience it, it’s hard to leave. For me, what started as a short stop turned into a lifetime. It’s where I met my wonderful wife, and where we’ve been lucky enough to raise our four amazing children.

Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate just how special this place is. The natural beauty is simply breathtaking—rugged cliffs, pristine beaches, and endless views that seem to slow time down. Whether it’s watching the waves roll in, enjoying a quiet walk, or taking in one of Albany’s famous sunsets, there’s a calmness here that’s hard to find anywhere else.

But it’s not just the scenery. Albany has a genuine, down-to-earth feel that makes people feel welcome. Life moves at a more relaxed pace, and there’s a strong sense of community that you notice straight away. It’s the kind of place where people still smile, say hello, and take the time to enjoy the simple things.

Raising a family here has been one of the greatest joys of my life. It’s a safe, beautiful environment where kids can grow up surrounded by nature and fresh air, with plenty of space to explore and just be kids. Watching my children grow up here has only deepened my love for this place.
