Peaceful cabin retreat on Clearwater Lake (4 season)

Our cozy family cabin sits on Clearwater Lake located 7 miles NW of Chisholm/Hibbing and 7 miles from McCarthy Beach State Park.
Well maintained, newer built cabin, with 2 bedrooms (1 queen, 1 twin over full bunk) 1 gas fireplace and 2 spacious rooms with radiant floor heat throughout. Professionally decorated simply in a vintage camping lodge style.
Shallow sandy swimming beach, perfect for kids. Full dock and firepit to enjoy s’mores by the lake. Outdoor charcoal grill.
Enjoy abundant fishing off the dock on this pristine spring fed lake. Enjoy a cup of coffee while sitting on the dock and listen to the call of the loons. And in the winter, watch the deer feed out front as you sit by the fire. We have games and books for those snowy/rainy days.
This is a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!
*we have also added a row boat & paddle board for guest use

Relaxing get away

Late Oct 2024 Karen was so nice and gave us very accurate information on hiking areas nearby. It was also easy to check in. The cabin was cute and clean. We spent a lot of time by the fireplace while enjoying the view of the lake. The kitchen was fully stacked. Was even provided fresh water, coal for the grill, and firewood for the pit. We would definitely stay again.

Beautiful cabin on a peaceful lake

A north woods cabin located on a quiet and remote lake? Yes, please! Clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Games, blankets and a fireplace add to the cozy feel. Host communication was prompt and helpful.

Very comfy cabin

The cabin is very comfortable and well appointed. The setting by the lake is lovely and we enjoyed a bug free evening by the firepit! The weekend we were there (late august), the potable water had a very strong smell to it that was hard to ignore even a while after showering. Fortunately, the fridge had two gallons of fresh water for coffee and drinking. You might want to bring more water if you plan on cooking or using more.

Another great week at Clearwater Lake

This was our 4th year staying at the Bensons'. It has turned into a treasured family tradition. We live only about 40 minutes away but don't have a lake property in the family. Our annual week on Clearwater allows us to do all of the classic Minnesota summer things - rowing, paddleboarding, swimming, fishing, and campfires, plus the convenience of home! So grateful you're willing to share your place with us!

Cabin weekend

We thought staying in a cabin vs hotel would be nice this trip. Cabin space was nice, second bedroom would be difficult for two or three to stay in. We didn’t use the kitchen or any outdoor amenities of property ( due to thick mosquitoes!). Communication and check in were very efficient made easy. I wish we would have known that they requested you take military showers as we had planned on having 4 guests… this would have created an issue. The cabin was not very clean. Lots of cobwebs and hair all over the sheets .. I wasn’t sure they were clean. No streaming device or DVD player for use. Overall nice for our use but the cleanliness was unfortunate.

Peaceful cabin and neighborhood

Enjoyed the cabin experience. Lake was beautiful and if into fishing the pike were biting even late into the season as we were. Owner allowed us to use our own trolling motor on the row boat which made going around the lake more enjoyable. Easy access to great off road vehicle trails where we were able to enjoy multiple wildlife species. Satelite/Wifi access was easy and worked well. Proximity to additional mining/tourist attractions was also a plus for us. Our only negative comment is that the mattress for master bedroom though clean, felt like it was getting tired and should be replaced. Overall we enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend this rental if you are looking for quiet getaway.

Great short stay

Lovely spacious cabin providing a nice retreat away from the elements. We biked on the Mesabi trail and it was close enough to be convenient, only downside was the voracious mosquitos which prevented us from spending much time by the lake.

Super cute

Very nice cabin. The amenities were great with a fully stocked kitchen, made making meals feel like you were at home. Beds and bedding were very comfortable. Nice to cozy up on the couch with the fireplace going and one of the many throw blankets available. The separate room was very nice to have for the kids. They were able to watch their own movies while we played games and watched TV on the other side. We checked out the fire pit area but with the weather we didn't get a chance to use it, but would be a very nice place to relax. All and all I would definitely come back and stay again and will be recommending to friends and family.

The reason why we picked this listing was due to the no pet policy. Unfortunately, the whole place was never cleaned. The floor was not clean in any of the rooms; lots of animal hair and dead bugs. The second bedroom had candy and candy wrappers all over the floor. The bathroom had dirty used towels hanging on the towel rack (didn't realize this until after we had already wiped our hands on them). Dirty washcloth hanging in the shower. Bathroom trash had not be emptied. There was also dirty laundry in each of the bedroom closets. The fridge & freezer had lots of random old takeout food. There is a frozen bag of what looks to be well water in the freezer that had leaked all over the inside of the freezer and refrozen on the bottom of the freezer. The stovetop, kitchen counter & kitchen table were all dirty. All the beds were made when we arrived. But when we went to get into bed (master bedroom) we immediately found pet hair everywhere in and on the bedding. On top of the duvet, every layer of all the bed sheets, all over the pillows and big clumps on the fitted sheet under the pillows. We kept the door to the master bedroom closed for the duration of our stay in order to try to contain as much of the animal dander as possible. We slept in the second bedroom on the bunk beds for the duration of our stay. Still have yet to hear back from the property manager after notifying them of the extent of these issues :(

Excellent getaway

We had a great time. The cabin heated up and was toasty warm. We enjoyed the campfire. All the amenities were very nice to have! We brought our own drinking water. The location is close enough to Hibbing and Side Lake where there is plenty to do. Highly recommend!

property, poor maintenance and cleanliness

Loved the cabin, great furniture and layout. Most storage space was filled with cleaning supplies that obviously weren't used that much. Leftovers from previous renters like foods, an open bottle of wine that are left in the cupboards should be thrown out. Trash in the shed was totally full. Directions could use some tweaking for accuracy - no sign for Hwy 5 headed east, cabin is 7 miles from a park up the road? This should not detract from a lovely cabin and site. They are easily fixed!

Hibbing stay

Renting via VRBO online was straightforward Check in was not Keypad entry pass had not been provided in spite of multiple texts and calls to number one of the numbers on the booking (and from which I had received a response to a non-urgent query few days prior to arrival). Had to call VRBO helpline and they couldn’t get hold of the owner waiter on the number they had. Found a 2nd number to call/text and from which we received a response. Was very disappointing to arrive around 5.30pm (so definitely after check in time) and not gain seamless entry to the property. Took a while to calm down before we could enjoy the place. Would have been good to know to bring drinking water to property since the tap water didn’t sound drinkable - owner instructions were not to use in the coffeemaker. There was some in the fridge to tide us over until we could get more. Place was tidy but not spotless clean and a touch of care on that front would have helped. Location is great. Fire pit was good. We were lucky and saw the northern lights too and this overall was a good experience after a hiccup start.

Get-a-way

We loved this property and our time there. It was quiet, peaceful and serene. There were lots of things to do nearby. The Side Lake store (recommended by the owners) had great ice cream! The owners were very accessible and helped us navigate a medical emergency well. My kids were able to catch lots of fish, (thank you for the row boat) and had so much fun swimming. The neighbors were quiet.
