I went with a small group - only 4 of us, which meant we could really sprawl out in this glorious old home. Though is has been refurbished, it still has the old charm - with the stone fireplace, old wooden floors and beamed ceilings. The kitchen, while modern, still has an old look to it. What I love is that it is in the country, BUT, right on a road that takes you to many wonderful locations. We were within an hour drive either direction of MANY fabulous castles, villages, and roadside restaurants. The town of Castilonnes is only a few minutes by car, or about 20 minutes on foot.
If your travel decision depends on a great internet connection, or television, this is not the place for you (there is internet, but it's spotty). But if you really want an enjoyable adventure, you couldnt do better.
Would I go there again? In a heartbeat. Might try to take my husband next time.
We found the best method of travel to get us there was to fly into Paris, and then transfer to a local flight to Bordeaux. There, we rented a car and drove the rest of the distance. Our rental car had GPS which was helpful and it took under 2 hours from Bordeaux. Many English speaking people in the area, at least enough English to help. They were ALL very kind and friendly to us. The woman who cares for the property, Hilary and her husband Mike, made our stay very enjoyable. Mike is American - from the south - and Hilary is British, so at least her English was far better, and more authentic than ours. (Sorry Mike, but we truly enjoyed your southern accent!)
Great time, even better adventure. Thanks for making this home available for rent.
