This delightful cottage is a must-stay for anybody looking for a get away to Smith Mountain Lake! The Hummingbird Cottage is a two-bedroom, one-bath home with 2 queen beds and a queen-size sleeper sofa. It's the perfect retreat for a couple's getaway or a small family escape!

The Hummingbird Cottage offers an open floor plan with a living room and an updated kitchen. The kitchen has a large refrigerator and stainless steel appliances. The living room has plenty of seating with a large wrap-around couch, and two chairs that face the wood-burning fireplace. The bathroom has a sink, toilet and shower. The living room and bedrooms are all equipped with flat-screen HDTVs and Blue-Ray DVD players. Relax near the wood-burning fireplace and watch one of the many movies, play board games, or get lost in a book. Wireless Internet is provided.

There are many outdoor spaces to enjoy at the cottage. The deck provides a peaceful, wooded setting to enjoy the views while relaxing or cooking on the gas grill. A gravel, switch-back path leads down to the dock. The dock is a great place to swim, fish, float, and enjoy the sunset. Two kayaks are available for our guests during their stay.

The dock is large enough to tie up a boat and jet ski. Electricity is available at the top of the stairs near the dock for recharging boat batteries. Public boat ramps are located at Hale's Ford Marina and Oak Grove- both within 15-20 minutes of the cottage.

The Hummingbird Cottage is conveniently located by water and land to many of Smith Mountain Lake's shopping and attractions, including Bridgewater Plaza, local wineries, Smith Mountain Lake State Park, Food Lion grocery store, and the Diamond Hill General Store. All are within 10 to 20 minutes of the cottage.

Note: A steep gravel driveway leads down a hill to the cottage. Boat trailers should not go down the driveway- the turn around area near the cottage is not large enough. Please notify owner if you plan to bring a boat/trailer. We recommend leaving trailers at a local marina or the top of the driveway in the grass.

We had everything we needed at this cottage. It was enough space for a longer weekend to relax! Enjoyed the getaway for sure, very clean, fully stocked kitchen and over all just wonderful!

Lake view is lovely, lots of fish at the dock to be caught. Cabin is well appointed and has plenty of cookware. Great stay for a family vacation!

House was lovely ; very clean. We enjoyed the boat dock and the fire pit. The driveway was a little bit of a challenge. Thankfully we had our truck. Very quiet and relaxing.

The host was terrific and the amenities were great. From when you walk in and see the beautiful view of the lake to when it's time for bed in the clean and charmingly decorated bedrooms, everything is such a comfortable stress free environment.

Hello! It's nice to cross paths with you! Here's a little about us...
My husband and I live in Stafford, Virginia. We have three sons- two in college and one in high school. I am a teacher at my youngest son's high school. My husband retired from a twenty+ year career in the Marine Corps and is now working as a project manager in Manassas, VA. My husband and I have been looking to purchase a lake cottage/cabin for a few years. Two years ago we rented a condominium at Smith Mountain Lake and fell in love with the area. In April 2021 we found exactly what we were looking for- a little cottage on the lake! We are both working full-time and are not able to visit the lake as frequently as we'd like to. Since it's available much of the year, we thought we'd share it with others who love the lake just as much as we do! We hope you enjoy your stay!

-Relaxing on the dock in the afternoons watching all the water fun
-Getting exercise by taking walks down to the point
-Grabbing lunch at the Diamond Hill Country Store (roast beef sandwiches are my favorite)
-Fishing off the end of the dock
-Kayaking around the corner to Jake's Place
-Grilling on the back deck
-Eating at Napoli Cowboy (it's a 20-25 min. car or boat ride, but it's worth it)
