Nestled on a hilltop, with spectacular views of Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano, Pie in the Sky is truly a little piece of paradise. Experience an unforgettable holiday in one of Costa Rica’s premier travel destinations.

Accommodation: Pie in the Sky is a unique and luxurious accommodation. There are 3 separated houses that share the common areas like Swimming Pool, Jacuzzi and BBQ Deck, and it offers you the flexibility to rent each house individually or the entire complex as one. This listing is ONLY for PIE IN THE SKY 1

- Pie in the Sky 1 is beautiful Cottage is located at the top of the hill is ideal for newly weds or couples looking for a romantic getaway.
- Its equipped with A/C, to keep you cool in the humid rainforest, TV, Wi-Fi and a kitchenette with the basics to prepare energizing breakfasts or romantic dinners.
- Guests staying in Pie 1 also have access to the spring fed swimming pool and hot tub, from where you can relax and enjoy fantastic views of the lake and the volcano Arenal.

- THINGS TO DO: There are lots of tours to keep you entertained for days, Volcano hikes, Zip Lines, Hanging Bridges, ATV tours, Kayak and Paddle-board tours, Rainforest and Waterfall hikes, Horseback riding, Hot Springs, Wildlife watching tours and more. All of these are less than half an hour away from the house. Our concierge is always available at our new and modern Welcome Center to help you book tours, find the best restaurants, book a massage and get the most out of your time in the area.

-LOCATION: El Castillo is approx. 3 hours (150km) from both international airports, either in the capital of San Jose, or on the northern pacific coast in Liberia. La Fortuna, which is a small city that offers amenities such as grocery, banking, post office, restaurants, hot springs, excursions and much more. is only 30 minutes away.

- GETTING AROUND: You will want your own Rental Car. While there are a few things to see and a couple of restaurants within walking distance of the house, there are many activities that require a 10 to 45 minute drive. You will not be happy waiting for a cab to arrive either coming or going.
*ROAD UPDATE: Some reviews mention the necessity of a 4x4 car to access the property, the drive up to the house was steep, rocky and sometimes slippery, but after Sep. 5th of 2022 it's completely paved, so any type of car will be able to make it up and down the hill without problems.

this was an excellent property to stay in while we explored Arenal. very private and cozy!

This is a property that is well maintained by the owner and there are always managers and folks working around the property that can help or answer any questions you may have while you are there.

Breathtaking views

This property is amazing! The views were incredible. The photos I got here of the valcano are amazing. The pool is so refreshing after a day of local exploring. Good restaurants and bars literally down the road or driveway. They have a generator in case power goes out. Will be coming back here.

Views for Miles!

What a wonderful place to stay while visiting Arenal! The views of both Lake Arenal and the volcano are incredible. The whole property is meticulously maintained and within easy walking distance to the village of El Castillo, restaurants and kayak rentals on the lake. Our unit (Pie in the Sky 1) was really clean, had a well appointed kitchen and even had coffee - bonus!! Directions to the property were easy to follow and the check-in process was seamless. The staff are very friendly and helpful. El Castillo is much quieter than La Fortuna and very close to Arenal National Park.

Beautiful property

This is a beautiful property tucked up on a hillside with great views of the lake and volcano. The property is secluded with a gated entrance making for a very private stay. There are 3 villas on the property, along with a shared outdoor pool and hot tub. There were people staying in one of the other villas at the same time as us, but we never even saw them. The property managers communicated very well for the check in and check out process. They also gave us recommendations for things to do in the local area. Overall, this is a great property that I would absolutely love to come back to again!

Heaven on Earth

We were so in love with this location, that we didn’t want to leave. It is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and the staff of Explore El Castillo make the stay effortless. I will say the bed is very firm, but we slept well anyway. Also, the walk down to the cottage is a very steep stone path that could be a little tricky for someone with mobility issues, otherwise our stay was bliss! The location on Lake Arenal is perfect if you like staying somewhere that feels a little more secluded, but La Fortuna is only a 30 minute drive away, and there are so many wonderful things to do in the area! We really plan to make it back here one day!

Volcano View in El Castillo

The property is gorgeous! Our private balcony overlooked the Arenal volcano and Pueblo Nuevo lake. There were tons of different birds around and the property is very quiet and secure. It has a remote control gated entrance and a steep, paved driveway to the top where all the bungalows are located. The pool is very nice, but since it isn't heated, we stuck to the hot tub. The grounds were cleaned daily, but we chose not to have maid service since we were there for only 3 days. Our bungalow had a small kitchenette, but we also used the gas grill on the covered patio. The welcome center in town is fantastic and were very helpful with any questions/concerns. There is a great, little restaurant next to the Welcome center, called Soda La Mesa de Mama, and a bakery literally steps away, named Panaderia un pedacito de cielo. We also hiked the 1968 Arenal trail at the base of the volcano. We spent part of the day exploring La Fortuna and walked down to the water fall and jumped into the refreshing waters (a must do!). Overall, a great experience and wonderful people, would highly recommend this property.

Wow, wow, wow

We stayed here for three nights and I will stay longer next time. We arrived in the dark and could not see any of the views. It was our first time to Costa Rica and we drove from San Jose in the dark. I don’t recommend that. It was a stressful drive. When we woke up in the morning we were in amazement. The views were Breathtaking . Delicious coffee was provided and we brought our own creamer from the States. If you like creamer in your coffee, you’ll need to bring it with you. We saw Tucans and monkeys in a distance. There is lots of wildlife so we highly recommend bringing your binoculars. We enjoyed the hot tub. It was a great way to relax after a day of adventures. Did I mention the view? It’s amazing from the hot tub too. We used our small kitchenette and it was stocked with what we needed. We even grilled steaks on the grill. The local restaurants are delicious and not too expensive. We slept well in the comfortable bed. We highly recommend this place and can’t wait to return. Thank you to our hosts who were extremely friendly and helpful.

Spectacular!

Our second time to stay at Pie 1. Great couples getaway. The view is beautiful, and the property is so nice. Unbelievable birding. Augustin is great to work with and Howlers is a cozy place to hang. We will be back again.

Beautiful place to stay in Costa Rica

We stayed here for for 3 nights. The views were breathtaking! We didn't need much more than a place to lay out head in the evening since we were exploring the hot springs and hiking during the day. My only complaint would be that the bed wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped. We had a small leak with the sink and it was fixed immediately. It was the perfect place to stay! I would highly recommend staying here.

Wonderful location, but small

The Organisation (booking, responsetime , check-in/out) was perfect The Pie1 flat is smaller as expected, the cooking capabilities limited -i never have seen such a misplaced and uncomfortable dish- washing installation , there were to less drinking glasses and cutlery was very limited available The pool was nice and cleaned every day. The jacuzzi would have been nice but after half a dozend people sharing it with drinks and eating inside, we decided to stay out. But the look from the terrasse , the quiteness of the location and the mainly nice weather stil made it a perfect time for us

Stunning views!

Words cannot express how much we enjoyed our stay in Pie in the Sky #1. Opening the curtains of the floor to ceiling windows on three sides of the room revealed outstanding views of the lake and the mountains. We loved relaxing in the hot tub each evening after our hikes or tours. Our concierge, Augustin, along with Daniel, were wonderful in helping to set up our daily activities. We enjoyed dining at the four restaurants close by in the charming village of El Castillo. Our location was perfect for activities and for going into La Fortuna (about 25 minutes) for shopping, but was out of the way of all the tourist traffic. We did fine without a four wheel drive (during dry season), but a Jeep would have given us more assurance even just going up the extended driveway to our Pie in the Sky room. In summary, this was a fabulous place to stay in a fabulous country!

Book it!

I cannot describe how beautiful this place is. The pictures don't do it justice. We spent almost every morning in the lookout with our coffee for a couple hours just watching the birds and butterflies and drinking in the view. It was raining on the first day, and it didn't even matter. We also enjoyed the pool and hot tub each evening. The room was great, lovely and very clean. It had a little kitchenette so we bought groceries to make simple breakfasts each morning so that we wouldn't have to get up and about so early. Other reviewers mentioned the ants -- we did have an issue with some little ants in a drawer. We let them know in the office and they took care of it. And, one night after a rain we came home to some larger ants that had come in under the door. We cleaned them up and didn't have a repeat issue. I think it's a trade-off to being at the top of a mountain with so much natural beauty around! The room was extremely clean, so that wasn't the issue. The staff in the office were very warm, friendly, and accommodating. We will DEFINITELY be back!!

Amazing view and property

This is the most beautiful property I have seen. We arrived around 9PM due to flight delays and an accident on the drive up but the host met us at the howler bar with the key and walked us into the room. Woke up to the most amazing view overlooking the lake and volcano. A bit of wildlife at the resort. We did not see any monkeys during our stay. There are 3 different houses to stay in at the majestic properties resort but they were vacant during our stay. The pool has a waterfall and was cleaned in the morning by a pool guy. Very cool watch tower and a deck with grill. The location is great upon arrival but getting there from the san jose airport took 3-4 hours of windy 2 lane roads. It is about 20-30 minutes to town and to see the waterfall. The town is a bit expensive as it seems to be a big tourist attraction. Hot springs were a lot of fun. We stayed only 2 nights but would have enjoyed a week there. We will definitely be back one day and we were weighing the options of doing a small wedding there.

Amazing Stay!

We had an amazing time at this property! It was exactly as advertised, the view was incredible, the unit we stayed in was very clean and affordable. The location is very close to many attractions in La Fortuna and Arenal. Having a pool and hot tub on site is very convenient and fun. The only negative thing during our stay were quite a few ants roaming around our unit.
